Hi peeps getting excited not long now tomorrow Thursday eve will be picking up my snake. as i said in my previous post never had a snake. have read a lot on hear and most important have also visited a few pet shops to see and hold YES I SAID HOLD some small royals. Need to build some confidence up for the big day, have taken advice from here so will be following that. everything i need i have would like to know will it be safe to transport my snake by car in hes Viv or as some people say in a cloth bag the time he will be in transit will be approx 2 hours any advice please last but not least thanks to everyone who has welcomed me and those who are about to lol |

had my baby for a week, she took her first feed at home last night! was sooooo coooool!
strike feeding is awesome! :) |

hi every body Riz is here and seems to be OK, it turned out to be a very warm day so Riz was happy in hes pillow case for the journey i set hes Viv up gave him a drink correct with the conditioner amount, i have made a better hide for him also taken a pic so hope to upload soon. i will not feed him for a couple of days, hes has been active has drank and dunked himself he has almost shed could say a lot more but tired. did have one hick up my co driver dropped a pane of glass had to tape it its fine will replace tomorrow.
PS as you can see i now have a name for him what do you think? |

Hi Terry. Their requirements are fairly simple, the care sheet on here covers pretty much everything you need to know. Ali also posted this thread http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1716 with some good advice.
As for the pics, there's a sticky at the top of the royal photos thread that explains how to put them up. As you know already, anything you need to know, ask.
Oh, pet shops will sometimes try to tell you that you don't need a thermostat with a heat mat, don't believe them. |

Thanks Chris yes i am taking someone with me will be warming the room today i do not think it will be to much trouble as the weather is warm. do not know how to put pic up or put a flag up you know those pretty pics but will soon put some up. what i do need is some positives never had a snake and I do want to do whats right for him or her. |

Hi Terry.
The ideal way is to get the viv set up a few days in advance to let the temps stabilise, but I didn't know that either when I got Princess. I did end up staying up tweaking the thermostat until I was happy that the temp was staying where I wanted it though.
A pillowcase is a good way to transport your snake, they feel more secure in a close dark place and you don't want him rattling round in his viv. If you're worried about him getting cold ask a friend to come with you and hold the snake on their lap in the bag, but if the car's comfortably warm for you he'll be OK until you get him home.

probably best to set up the RUb as a temporary home so he can have a few hours in there before moving into the big viv |

How are you heating the viv then? - It will take a while for the temps to stabilise once you turn it on and put the furniture in etc. |

Iam picking up the viv with the snake. before i leave home i will place an oil filled rad where he will be placed this will warm the spot nice glad you said yes about the bag i agree also me thinks maybe put a small rub near rad so he can be in there while i set the viv up your thoughts please. I do not want to stress the snake to much hope my preps are ok |

Have you got the viv set up yet if you are picking the snake up tomorrow? - It would be advisable to make sure the temps etc are stable before.
I would transport in a cloth bag with some torn up newspaper in. The car will be warm enough for a couple of hours. The snake shouldn't have eaten a couple of days before the journey. |
