Hey! Many of you may know me from the corn snake site; as I have an unsexed amel corn snake who is 10 months old and roughly two feet long. i have had 4 corns and been keeping a snake for at least 2 years. one corn I sold and 2 unfortunately died.
from surrey; and the next addition I'm looking for is... a royal python! these snakes do look truely stunning yet some of their dinner preferences put me off a bit but a little perserverence wouldn't hurt!
So, are they the same to keep as corns?
same temps?
what sizes do they get to and how big do their viv need to be when their fully grown etc?
I know all the bits like 2 hides; stat etc etc.
look foward to meeting the python keepers I haven't met yet!

there are some nice Kings around, make sure you get one that is well handled though..lol...

Hmm.. King's sounds a bit less worrying route to take :)
Will save the royal till I can be a good place to care for it more (due to school.. etc etc)
Would still lurk around on here and maybe in a few years...

The temps in my corns tank do vary; would the variation in like 5-6 degrees be a bad thing?
I'm looking for a new snake, kings and milks colours really appeal to me. I'm really liking cali kings or a milk or perhaps a royal
Where my corn is at the moment is in my conservatory in the shade, yet Im going to move it in the winter to a warmer room.
The thing worrying me the most about a royal would be the temp changes. Once i saw the temps hit 40 degrees! panicing I turned the fan on in the conserv and it cooled right down.
Probably not the ideal snake with my space for it.

royals do need a steady enviroment,people say their a good beginers snake but i disagree,i know the placid and cheap to buy but in my book that dont make them a beginers snake.(i know your not a beginner)
All kings can musk but usally stop once settled,mine still do it if i lift them out and they dont want to lol |

Okay thanks for that remmy. If I did get one, I'd definately get a male  theyr'e more fat then long snakes anyway.
BE - only a snappy corn yet solved that.
Lee - My corn's heat in warm end can change from like 32-29 with this variation in a royals tank, would that be bad?
Looking at it the wrong way.. oh God whats the wrong way?
Hmm... I'm probably going to wait a while if they need more care as I'm out a lot at school and if the temps soar at home no one would be around to change them.
Kings do look cool though - is it just male MBK's that musk in their tank? |

hi hillzi,as you said royals are great looking but not much room for error with these,get something wrong like the temps,setup or handling or even look at it the wrong way you could end up with problems,do plenty of research on here before buying. |

Corns are very hardy in comparison to Royals, so if you've struggled with Corns then Royals aren't for you.
Royals need a bit more 'care' or as you mentioned they can get stressed and go off their food.

Hi hillzi and welcome over. I`m new to royals so i`m not the best person to tell you.
They are almost the same to keep as corns exept a bit more temperamental.
Temps are a bit higher 90 at warm end.
I believe males get to around 3 1/2- 4 ft and females get to around 5 -6 ft and a 3 by 2 by 2 ft viv is ok for a female. |
