Posted - 09/09/2009 : 17:22:53 hello i got my royal python last friday (5 days ago) i went in and asked the lady how to set the viv up she told me to half the tank with a peice of ply wood, the viv was a 48 x 18 x 18 inch viv. i halved it to 24 inches untill it gets bigger, its probably just over a foot in length, the heat source is a 40W red bulb which is set on a tehrmostat, s/he has a water bowl, a hide and i platic plant to climb. s/he is due a feed on friday so ill see how she goes with that. the woman put a smal mouse i think it was in front of the snakes head and looked to see which one would strike feed and the one i got was the 1st 1 to strike feed so i got that. i read on another post that i shouldnt handle the snake for about a week to let her settle in but i have already done that. do any of you have any tips on keeping snakes as pets? i would realy appreciate it as i am a noob at this :) manty thnx chris |

Posted - 11/09/2009 : 21:32:59 I have to agree with the others. i think the lady in the shop may have been mistaken. Aspen is a lot finer than that, like match sticks that have gone through a shredder. So i would say go with the news paper or kitchen roll option for no. Its not worth the rick.
Oh and welcome to the forum |

Posted - 11/09/2009 : 19:41:23 Sorry, that's not Aspen though, I'd guess Pine and if so, it'll be toxic. |

Posted - 11/09/2009 : 19:36:35 if shes getting a film on her eyes then shes coming into shed and snakes dont usually feed when getting ready to shed.. dont force feed her as I think that could stress her out and could cause probs in the long run |

Posted - 11/09/2009 : 18:20:31 im sure it is, i asked the woman what substrate to use and she said aspen, and she pointed the aspen bag out to me so im sure it is :) it looks like my snake is in the stages befor shedding, she is getting a film on her eyes, and i tried to feed her befor and she refused it. will this because she maybe going into shed? the woman in the shop showed me how to get her to eat if she refuses food, shoul i try that? thnx chris

Posted - 10/09/2009 : 22:56:56 its not wood shavings its aspen, or is that the same? i got told aspen was ok for a substrate? you still adviise me to use paper? thnx |
lee2308 |
Posted - 10/09/2009 : 22:54:38 I would take the wood shavings out aswell as they can contain pine which is toxic to royals.Put it on kitchen roll or paper until you can get some other substrate |
