Hi everyone just signed up today i have a Pastel Royal Python ;) had him for just under a week now.
I have a Question... i have my Pastel in a 10inch in height and a 14inch in width container with thermostat aand heat mat i have the temperture at 27 on a day to day basis i feel like my python is too hot or is getting too warm considering hes just in a container and not in a proper vivarium yet does the temperture i have it on ok??????? 27 in a plastic container 10 in Height and 14 in width do i need to lower the temperture??? |

Yes agree with guys above. Only one thing (obvious), is the heat mat should only cover upto half the floor underneath the enclosure. Are you doing this? I only ask as if you bought the snake from a pet shop they are notorius for giving bad advice, as they are often not trained at all. (most have never heard of a thermostat for the control of the heat source!)
Snakes are cold blooded (need the environment to maintain their body temperature, unable to raise their own body heat) and thermoregulate. Sounds complicated but it just means if the snake is cold, he'll go somewhere hot to warm up (you need to provide a hot spot 33*C so he can warm up and a cool end which is around mid 20's) and vica versa to cool down. Most people just allow the cool end to run at room temp, as long as its not a really cold room. |

heya and welcome
i agree with BE above, the temp should be the same wether it's in a RUB/faun or a viv as it's the temperature required for body processes such as digestion. a digital thermometer placed on the substrate with the stat probe will give you an accurate reading (and i rubber-band the two probes together) |

No, you need to raise the temperature, 30-33C is the sort of hot end temps you want. Try reading here: http://www.theroyalpython.co.uk/royal_python_care_sheet.htm
How are you measuring the temperature though, if its a dial its useless and if its not on the substrate its useless.
