Leave the red bulb on at night.
spongebob Posted - 28/12/2009 : 17:35:37
hia but if i get rid of the heat mat altogether wont it get to cold at night??
Blackecho Posted - 28/12/2009 : 17:31:42
Hi, welcome to the forum, as above, I'd get rid of the heat mat completely.

The guard on the other bulb is also necessary to stop the snake constricting around it and cutting itself as well as to stop the potential of burns.
spongebob Posted - 28/12/2009 : 17:16:57
during the day the the ungarded buld is on all the time (25w), hot end (bulb) is at 32 and the cool end is done by the heat mat at 28. at night the mat stays at 28 but both the bulbs go off completly

Its definatly worth putting a gaurd over the bulb. Saying that, the snake wont need the bulb as natural light will be fine, so you could wire it to a light switch and just use it for when your cleaning the viv (so you wouldnt bother guarding it).

Most people will either use a mat or a bulb, you shouldn't have to use both. Because of the size of the snake, using just the bulb would be better. What are your temps in the viv?

Edit - spelling

hi thanks for the welcome. yea the dimming stat is for the red bulb the other is for the heat mat, it gets warm but not hot, ive never put a cage on it cause he never goes anywhere near it. would it be worth it anyway

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Im assuming the dimming stat is being used for the red bulb? What is the temp stat being used for? Does the white bulb get hot to the touch?
