Posted - 04/02/2010 : 07:11:51 Hi my name is Maria I'm new here buy really looking forward to getting to know you all! I'm also new to snakes as well so I apologize if I ask some really silly questions!!!! My first question is: my husband and I have set up our viv the way the pet shop has told us for a Royal Python and we are ready to have one now! but the pet shop only has 8 month old baby's and have told us they won't let them go any younger then 8months- they breed them themselves and are handled as soon as they can!!!! My question is, is 8months too old to be getting a baby Royal? will I still get as good a result tame wise? Sorry to be asking questions already!!!!! Hope someone can help xxxxx |

Posted - 05/02/2010 : 08:23:48 Hi Maria, welcome to the forum. I got my royal when she was three, and she's nice and tame. As others have said, it's good that they won't let them go until they're a bit older as hopefully they're established feeders. |

the problem with rep shops is they often have the same talk regarding set-up regardless of what species you're purchasing.............check the caresheet, ask, or use the search on here for more Royal-specific answers
and 8 months, 12 months whatever is fine and tbh it's probably better as they should be established feeders by that age |

Posted - 04/02/2010 : 13:42:08 Hi Maria, take what Pet shops say with a pinch of salt. If you'd like to tell us about your setup, or even better, photos, we may spot something that will save you hassle in the long run?
Welcome to the forum |

Posted - 04/02/2010 : 11:07:59 hey and welcome Maria
i got my royals at about 18months old and whilst one handled like a dream, the other was a bit snappy. After a few weeks of small regular handling sessions he has definately become friendlier when handled, if the royal you do get is a bit snappy at first then its nothing that a bit of patience and tlc wont solve hope this helps, and feel free to ask as many q's as you want - its what the forum is for! |
