Hi i'm Chris form Folkestone in Kent and soon to be a first time snake owner
I've put a deposit on a 2009 CB royal and hope to pick him up in the next 2 weeks, just waiting for all my equipment to start arriving and for me to figure out what ceramic lamp i need.

I went for an LX36 (3' viv) which i wasn't sure was small enough although he was alot bigger than the others Royals i saw of the same age.
The owner pointed me toward a red lamp and heatmat but having looked on the boards i decided ceramic would be best,i've got a Habistat day/night pulse stat coming but just not sure which lamp to use?
I will ofcourse get myself a ceramic guard but i noticed that the lamp manufacturers say you need a space of 40cm between the lamp and your snake, which could be problematic considering the height of the viv.

Anyway so far i'd have to thank so many people for all the posts that have helped me so far, just gotta keep searching for a couple of elusive answers

Thanks all :)

I've decided to go with a 60w lamp and get a friend to make a guard, assuming we can find the right mesh.
I also went and payed for "Syler" today so eager to get it all sorted, but i have over a week to get it right and collect him :)

Hi Chris and welcome, I'm afraid I too use IR bulbs and dimmer stats so I don't know too much about ceramics, I prefer IR s they give out red light which doesn't bother the snake but allows me to see them

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum, you won't need to high a wattage for an LX36, I use IR bulbs myself, but sure someone who uses ceramics will be along to advise soon. I'd guess 100W.
