Posted - 02/01/2011 : 20:53:33 Sorry but still no photos. Kisi is doin well, great feeder n shedder, but Ajoba is in hospital as his scale rot wasn't clearin up n sheds were sticking so he's gettin internal antibiotics n nursing. I haven't seen him since last yr :-( . Kisi gettin extra attention n she has moved up from a RUB to a nice new tobacco walnut viv, suits her dark colours. Glenn, my other half, is gonna have to help me put photos here, I really haven't a clue. Don't even know if I'm doin this right! G has a bearded dragon n chili rose tarantula. That's all for now. Bye. |

Posted - 05/01/2011 : 00:39:44 I was gonna answer high 20s at basking end, low 20s at cooler end, no pic of his viv as I've dismantled and cleaned it last week when he went into hospital. I could put up a pic of Kisi in her house, it would be what he was gonna come home to. Thanks again for ur help. |

Posted - 03/01/2011 : 11:56:44 hiya, i would reduce the humidity for ajoba to 50. definitely use kitchen roll. you only want him in contact with a dry surface. i would also take out the moss box and just spay the sides of the viv or wood/ decor to increase the humidity after his eyes have cleared after going blue that way you can regulate him and he's not sitting on a damp surface aggravating the rot. Fingers crossed for getting him home. Also make sure there's something rough for him to rub against. What are our temps at either end also? |

Hope Ajoba goes on okay.
Thanks, do you have any tips for when Ajoba comes home? He is such a problem shedder. His eyes go blue so I give him his moss box but he never comes out of it (which aggrevates his belly) so I have to take him out after a couple of hours. Sometimes not enough humidity cos he doesn't shed fully. I have followed vet's advice and I have a good local shop who also give good advice but I just can't get the balance right for him. Kisi is ok so far, feeds no problem, sheds ok, and I can almost leave her moss box in permenantly - she's in and out it and her caves. Any help greatly appreciated.
Hi, Stoddy, think you must have posted just as I was rolling off into my warm hide ie bed lol! But Bob knows loads more than me - I only started with royals in July myself. Sorry to hear Ajoba's got problems - I think maybe some royals just are scruffy shedders. Shahi was as a baby, and I leave him a damp hide in his viv all the time, but last time his shed was fine, we were lucky. Have you seen the sticky on here about bathing after an incomplete shed (although I realise this may not be an option if Ajoba's got scale rot - hope the poor old chap gets over that soon.) All the best. |

A good tip is to Wait for the eyes to clear after they have gone blue then either add the moss hide or let him soak in some warm (same temp as hot side) water. He should shed very soon after.
Hi, I may have answered you already, not very good with computers, though this is easier on a laptop than an i phone. Humidity a bit higher, 60 ish. Aspen, though Ajoba on kitchen roll as per vet's advice. Moss box is moist, not soaking wet, and placed in warm end of viv. I am very vigilant and usually do a full substrate change when they do their toilet. Thanks for your help, I'll be phoning vet for update soon and hopefully Ajoba's comin home soon. |

Posted - 03/01/2011 : 11:09:18 Thanks for replying. Generally humidity a bit higher, nearer 60. Ajoba been on kitchen roll cos of scale rot underneath; Kisi on Aspen which is what he was on before vet said to change onto paper. Moss is warm n damp. Not soaking, wringing wet or dry either. If it dries a wee bit, I spray it a few times with warm water. Thanks for the tip - how long should I let him soak in warm water for? |
