Hi all,
Just joined up to the forum recently, and what a great forum this is!
My reason for joining is to do some research into what you all think of a new type of reptile housing which has been specifically designed for Royal Pythons. Until now these have only been available in Canada and the USA but it has been very popular. I have been granted the exclusive distribution rights in the UK for this product and was after your views on this product. Please believe me when I say I am not advertising it - I am researching into what people think about it to get an idea as to whether it is worth importing or not. It is still very early stages yet.
What do you think to it's appearance? How much would you be prepared to pay for such a thing?
It is made from acrylic, the door has two key operated locks and ventilation is provided by a 1/4" gap around the door. There is a hole on the back towards the bottom to accommodate thermostat sensors and misting is reduced to once every 3/4 days due to decent humidity retention.
Anyway here is a couple of pics:

I agree, ditch the see-through one. It's the main reason I didn't look into getting a glass terarium for my boy. There's just no privicy. Like living in a greenhouse!
But as for the others, I can see that they might be good for shops due to their clean shape and simplicity, but call me old fashoned if you want but for at home I think they would look out of place and... possably cheap. Sorry : / Maybe I'm just too attached to vivariums. Saying that though, they would look very good in certain kinds of home, maybe more minamalist homes or ones with not so much clutter. I'm sure they'd fit right into a place like that (the opposite of my home!).
I also agree with the gap around the door, it could cause injury. How strongly built are they in terms of escape proof? What/where are their week points apart from the door? Also, would this gap around the door not effect the tempratures and/or humidity?
What sizes do they come in? Are they designed for smaller/younger Royals, or for adults too?
Also, you mention a hole for sensors, is there a hole for heat fittings like a ceramic or I.R. bulb? If so, how easy is it to attach the guard too?
I could see that you might have a problem in convincing people to spend the money on one of these. Basicly they're a plastic box, just one that's been jazzed up a bit. A RUB is also a plastic box and they, I can imagine, will be much cheaper to buy than a one of these. Saying that though I can see people being atracted to them, for their clean and smart look. But they would need to do the right job too.
As for me... I'm afraid I'm not convinced. But, like I said, maybe I'm just too attached to my vivariums!

I'd also check the temp gradiant.
If it holds heat well it might also not let it escape and cause it to be at one static level throughout |

Thanks for the reply, it's interesting to hear peoples opinions and it's good to hear what the negatives might be too.
As for the cost this is something that I am working out at the moment. The supplier has sent one to me which should be arriving tomorrow. Once I know how much import duty tax and shipping is then I should be able to work out a price.
I am going to set one up with a heat mat and stat to check how well it holds heat so will will let you know about that one  |

Yeah I agree with BE - the clear one is no good for royals. Also I wouldn't be happy about the gap round the door - it could be too draughty, and attract an inquisitive snake into working away at it and abrading its nose and even breaking out. Not a royal, maybe, but I've heard of a boa forcing a rub open.
The design is beautiful, but how much heat do these enclosures hold? Would they have to be in a warm room like rubs, so as to maintain temperatures? What is the recommended mode of heating them?

If designed specifically for Royals then I would ditch the see-through version if you're after opinions, your're asking for trouble putting a secretive, easily stressed snake in a clear box.
Like the look of the black ones though. |

Simple but effective i guess. They look more tailered to breeding and shops. If they are acrylic then i'd also suggest the rainbow boa site as they are perfect for the high humidity.
Whats the stacking limit like? |
