Posted - 07/03/2011 : 15:13:24 Hi all, had my beautiful royal for six months now and am soo happy with him as he`s such a soft t**t! (he, he, got it changed now!)
Took him to the vets today just for a check up and had really good comments on his health. 400g and eating well is on a rat weener a week. He`s a CB10.
Just want to ask if that was ok, as when he was on XL mice I found he was pooing alot of calcum, and when`s the best weight to change his feeding timetable.
Many thanks. XX
Will add photos later |

Posted - 07/03/2011 : 16:16:25 Hi, and welcome to the forum.
Feeding table - courtesy of Blackecho:-
0-400g - feed every 5 days 400-800g - feed every 7 days 800-1200g - every 10 days 1200g+ - every fortnight
Feed 10/15% of the snake's bodyweight.
As you will see there's no hard and fast rule; it depends on the snake's weight and growth rate. Plus sizes and weights of prey in different shops (to say nothing of terminology) vary wildly ...
The calcium your lad was passing is probably urates, or solid wee. Sometimes it looks like mint imperials - nothing to worry about.
He sounds a lovely lad, and a good weight too.
Hope this helps.
(Oops - amendment - sorry, read and reread your post to make sure I'd got everything and never picked up on the fact that you've got him on rats already ... congRATS!)
(Yes, rats are much better than mice, nutrition and also size-wise - it's a lot easier to feed one rat to a big snake, rather than 4 xl mice ...) |
