Posted - 17/03/2011 : 19:16:44 Hi, i'm new here. I'm getting my first Royal tomorrow, a year old female whom i'm calling Wendigo. Her current name is Montana which i think is ok, but reminds me of Hannah Montana xD I went to see her on Wednesday so i could handle her before i got her, i've had a corn snake in the past which was very aggressive, so i had to rehome it. I've heard a lot about Royals/Balls, and heard they are great beginners snake. But i wanted to make sure she was friendly. I handled her, she's friendly, but i don't she has been handled much, the bloke we are getting her off said he bought her for his other half, but she wanted a baby BP, so she was timid of it, and the previous owner to that from what i heard was a horrible person, he had spiders in tiny tanks, and poked them to 'show off' so she hasn't had a very good start to her life. But she seems nice natured, so i'll get her ''out of her shell''
Pictures to follow, She is a beauty, and is just finishing her shedding.

Posted - 19/03/2011 : 11:45:26 Thanks =) i'm just a bit worried though as they have two breeding corns D= If they can get something so simple like heat wrong, i dread to think what they are going to be like breeding their corns. |

Posted - 19/03/2011 : 10:23:53 Hi guys! She came about half one yesterday, I was peed off when she came though, when i put my hand in the tank, i felt no heat what so ever, so i checked the bulb and the idiot used an energy saver bulb (8 watt) for her heat. She has a heat mat, and as you know they are supposed to have a heat light also. He said she normally spends her time in the house, no wonder if it's over the heat mat you idiot. So when i changed the light to a heat light, about 30 mins later, she was out looking around. The people who i bought her off are worse then people who know nothing as they are people who think they know it all when they don't. In other words they are people who talk through their arse. She was going through a shed, and there was no humidity in the cage what so ever, they only bit of water she did have was in a small bone shaped bowl which she didn't want to go in, so her shedding was all flakey and not coming off properly. So i wet a teatowel and put it in there for her, and i also misted her, and changed her bowl to a large circle crufts dog bowl. Checked her this morning, and she was out the house, most of her shed is off now, and bits of skin over the teatowel, so she's appreciates it and has been using it. Pictures to follow shortly. |

Posted - 17/03/2011 : 19:22:27 Welcome to the forum!
You've done the same thing as me I had a mega aggressive corn snake when I was a kid whom I had to rehome (why people laugh when we say aggressive corn i'll never know mine was pure evil!)
I also did the same thing as you by getting a neglected royal, valhalla was her name and she was great but I did have to work out some personality kinks she got from lack of handling, I wouldn't like to put you off as royals are fantastic beginning snakes and very addictive, wonderful snakes but if you get a ... 'troubled' snake like I did you might expect a little nip or two as she gets used to the handling :)
Can't wait to see pics! Welcome again |
