Hi. I have been defrosting mice for my snake in a plastic box covered over with kitchen roll so nothing could get in. I have been leaving like this at room temp for around 24 hours. Is this ok or is it too long? Suddenly had a thought that I wouldn't do this is my meat so don't know if its ok for a mouse?

I just leave them at room temp for a few hours depending on size.

I did used to defrost for 24hours and I didn't do any harm

Well I threw away the 2 mediums I got yesterday that had been defrosting overnight and got one large. It's been sat out for 2 hours or so on her tank. She can def smell it, she's been trying to get to it the greedy cow! Now for the kids to go to bed do she can have it. Thanks for all the advise.

i defrost mine with warm water in a clip lid box thing then put this directly ontop of the bosc's ceramic. with the xl rats i tend to leave them out during the day, if forget to leave them out they go in the water aswell

I normally leave my guys out for the day, depends what sizes you're using for where I leave them. Small food like mice or small weaners I leave on the side without extra heat, medium snakes I leave ontop of a vivarium or in a warmer room and extra big things like large rats and guinea pigs I leave directly ontop of the vivarium light (and even then they're normally still not quite warm enough by night time)

Yeah I normally leave mouse in a plastic box but suddenly had a brain wave that I wouldn't leave my food to defrost that long. Iv thrown the two medium mice out and brought a large one and its defrosting on her tank ready for her tonight. Hope she takes it like last week!

There are two methods which people use.
1). You put mouse into plastic bag and drop the bag into container with warm/hot water (not too hot)
2). You put mouse directly into warm/hot water
In both methods you must leave them in the water till they are definitely defrost which you will feel in touch.
Some people also put their mice into microwave on defrosting mode but I wouldn't recommend it.
When your radiator is on, you can put muse in the plastic bag and leave it on the radiator.
If you are not happy with those methods you can put mouse into plastic box and leave it in the cage of your snake under/above the hot spot.

I bag my rats up and put them in a container of warm water for 3 hours. Then I warm their heads up under running warm water and feed.

Probably is a bit long lol if you take it out in morning when you get up should be ok to feed at night
