Im going to try and switch to rats next week, I have a 470g snake which I'm going to try to feed a weaner rat to (about the size of a large mouse), which is what he normaly has but I have also have a small mouse to scent the rat with.

My question is if he takes the rat can I feed him the small mouse after? He seems to be consuming the large mice pretty quick now and he is a little thicker than the mice.
I can't see why it would be a bad idea, I would probably just leave feeding for 10 days instead of 7. If this is succsussful I will do it again the next time and then stay on the rats.

We have been feeding our 6 month old royal double rat weaners for several weeks which was more than 15% of his body weight. He ate the two one after the other with no problem. He has now moved on to small adult rats that weigh just over 100g each and takes them with ease.

Yeah I will switch to rats fully but just didn't think it was worth chucking a perfectly good mouse away after

If he takes the rat weaner feed him another rat weaner and keep him on rats, they are fattier and better than mice.

Ive also double fed a couple of times, when the weight of the 2 combined still added up to the 10-15% rule. I will be moving him up though very soon. I personally have had no problems with it. But ive been lucky so far to have a greedy one =]

The stomach wont have any issues digesting two ex-squeakers so as long as they are the right size then it will be fine. I've double fed a couple of times and never had a problem. Getting it to take 2 is another story, just leave them both in and see what happens.

I think most people feed prey that is between 10 and 15% of snakes weight so if rat and mouse are no more than that should be ok but would probably be easier to just give it a bigger rat so it only has to digest one item
