Posted - 21/12/2009 : 10:32:45 Hi peeps
Sorry i havent been on here for ages, Heffa is doing fine, temps and humidity is great now.
Heffa is due to shed already. My diary shows that she normally sheds every 4 to 5 weeks. Since the cold weather, her shedding is delayed. I fed her 12 days ago, skipped her feed on weds to keep her energy up. Her scales are pale and you can see she is due a shed, she isnt going really pale and her eyes have not gone blue. I have had the dam hide in there for nearly 2 weeks, her humidity level sits at about 57 to 65, even with the damp hide in the cool end.
She has pood twice in the last week, but no shed. Is there anything i can do?? Or is this just normal for this time of year??
Appreciate any advice and have a great xmas :) |

Posted - 19/01/2010 : 11:31:10 Thanks Gingerpony. i will get some. I did have a damp hide in and dampened it every day, as was drying out quite quickly. She had a delayed shed (took nearly 2 months)
But will wait till next shed and see how she is |

Posted - 18/01/2010 : 20:46:40 if its a small patch and, bearing in mind wher it is i wouldn't be overly concerned and probably wait for the next shed then prepare more adding a damp hide when you see her in blue
but the stuff you mean is called Shed Aid |

Posted - 18/01/2010 : 13:07:30 I have tried dampening with cotton buds, as it right on top of her head, between her eyes. her head looks like she has a goldy look to it. A friend mentioned using olive oil. wots peoples thought on this?
I know you can get that shed liquid specifically from shops, wot is it called?
Oh and good news, she took her first rat last night, absolutely no problemo, didnt even hav to rub it against a mouse. :) |

Posted - 15/01/2010 : 21:46:19 getting shed off, most people put a damp hide box in there, and that tends to work. If it doesnt then maybe putting her in a pillowcase with a damp rough cloth (flannel?) in it. When my royal had her bad shed I soaked a towel, wrung it out so it was damp and let the royal slide through it, with me putting only a tiny bit of pressure on, and the skin loosed up and came off that way |

Posted - 15/01/2010 : 14:01:28 I noticed today that her head looks like it has some stuck shed on it. But when I checked her on 4/1, this was not evident. What is the best way to remove this? |

Posted - 04/01/2010 : 17:01:55 heffa shed night before last, not good shed as all in pieces but looks like she has got it all off. Took a large mouse last night and now all cosey.
Her eyes went blue only a couple of days before she shed, which thought was strange....
but happy she happy now :) |

Posted - 29/12/2009 : 13:50:06 checked on heffa last night and her belly has gone a real "creamy" look, slightly pink. The creamyness is raising up her scales, and she now has gone really dull. Her humidity sits at about 62 to 65%. I keep a damp hide and a large water bowl in. She has been using the damp hide as I can see where she has squashed the moss.
Is this a good sign? |

Posted - 25/12/2009 : 21:05:02 saggy skin can also be related to weight loss or dehydration as well as shedding. if you've seen the blue-eyed stage then expect the eyes to clear again and for the snake to shed usually within about a week but don't be surprised if it does take a little longer. might be worth putting a damp hide in to try and ease things along |

Posted - 24/12/2009 : 11:00:35 Ginger pony? My May 09 is due for its first shed with me, it was harder to see the eye change unlike the Royal python but there was a milkiness to them earlier in the week. Today the skin has gone very loose looking by the neck area and especially today near the tail area where it loks very dry. Is this indicative of shedding? I only ask as I;ve never seen my royal shed I just find the skin the following day after I;ve given him sone peace and quiet to do it?
cheers Simon |

Posted - 23/12/2009 : 07:42:46 Maybe 4 months I'd start to question it. That's about the longest I've had one take. |

Posted - 22/12/2009 : 22:40:55 ok BE. How long do you think i should wait for before I should be concerned and consider bathing her again? |

Posted - 22/12/2009 : 22:34:33 Just wait. |

Posted - 22/12/2009 : 22:22:12 I have given her a quick soak, hoping it will help with loosening up the skin. She hasnt shed any off, but thought it might help bring it on.
I used damp cotton buds on her head, but nothing is coming off. Her humidity level is currently sitting at 75%.
If she doesnt shed in the next couple of days, im not sure wot to do next?
She has stopped rubbing her head since her bath, so hopefully that it a good sign :) |

Posted - 22/12/2009 : 21:22:47 It could be possible I guess. Just managed to weigh her quickly and she is 400g and is 6 months old.
She is still in a 12L rub. So not a lot of room. I have water bowl on right side (cool end) normal hide on warm end and damp hide in the middle bwteen the two. I did have a damp hide on the warm but she still didnt use it and just slept on the kitchen towel. Being a right stubborn so and so.
I jus caught her really rubbing her head and she managed to get some of the skin off her head, so im really thinking she is struggling. She hasnt got really pale at all and her eyes are clear.
Im wandering whether to bathe her, or do you recommend a pillow case with some damp kitchen towel. I dont have any newspaper but have normal printing paper. or maybe bathe her?? |
