150mm x 280mm

6" x 11"

7 watt

Be ok for a hatchling Royal ? or do i need HabiStat Heat Mat
430mm x 280mm
17" x 11"
20 watt.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Should i go for this Thermostat http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Temperature-Thermostat-Reptile-Snake-Lizard-Vivarium_W0QQitemZ370122746518QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects?hash=item562d08ea96

Or this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Microclimate-Ministat-Reptile-Thermostat-300W_W0QQitemZ260530300534QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects?hash=item3ca8d0e676 With this one i already have one that i use for the Cornsnakes so i know these ones work great but not sure on the first one ?

Yes, as Daz says, an MC dimmer is fine.

How about this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MICROCLIMATE-B1-DIMMING-DIMMER-Reptile-THERMOSTAT_W0QQitemZ290371943038QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Reptiles_Spiders_Insects?hash=item439b843a7e

As above, yes, PPs are great for heatmats and ceramics.

Or something like that, it is late and my brain isnt working lol.

Oh right that makes sence

SB is right, A dimmer or PP stat only runs at full power when it is initially turned on, it then runs at a reduced rate to maintain the temperature.

Im not saying that to use a on/off stat is wrong and it wouldnt work, all im saying it is recommended for a more accurate, stable temperature and to help increase lifespan of your ceramic it is advised to use a dimmer or PP stat with a ceramic.

So on a Dimmer or PP Stat , Does it have a dial thing where you choose to set what temp you need it at ?

You can get a PP/dimming stat for about £30.

I dont get it so if it stays on 24/7 then wont it go over 34*C ??? how will it maintain a constant same temp ??
bikesfred54 Posted - 15/01/2010 : 20:52:52
i know bulbs can blow with on off stats.but i have been running my ceramic with the the same stat for around a year with no problems. it also runs the temps between 86-88f so i dont think there is going to be a problem between heating up or cooling down.the only thing i will say is all my other vivs is running with habistat dimmers or pulse stats.i us this stat with the set up i bought as a complete set up and that was how it was being used befor i got it.

I think your wrong as with one of my big corns i some times during cold winter nights i turn his heatmatt off and turn on the ceramic heatbulb on which is connected to the Microclimate Ministat Thermostat 300W and it works fine ....
but with any bulb constantly switching on...switching off...switching on...switching off...switching on...switching off...switching on...switching off... it won't last for long!!!

Oh right would it pop the ceramic , Ive had a ceramic bulb for 6months and i use it some times for one of the corns as the heatmatt wont get to the right temp on cold nights and i have had no problems as of yet

How much is it for the PP and dimming stats ?

PP and dimming stats are the most suitable for use with ceramics as they supply a more constant reduced supply of energy. If you use a on/off stat with a ceramic it could dramatically reduce the life span of the ceramic and provide a unstable temp gradient, especially if the ceramic is a high wattage one.

Thats under a ft long and ft wide right so it better if i get the other size ?

6inches = half a foot,
11inches = just shy of one foot..

so it would cover all of one side and then about a third across...

although heatmats seem to disagree with me most of the time, they never manage to get to the temperature i want them to, even following everyones instructions to the letter!
Therefore a lightbulb and thermostat is perfect for me.
