Posted - 26/03/2011 : 09:04:30 Ya know, and not to brag, but we've never had any issues feeding Margwar, not to the extent most people have, I think in the 5 years I've lived with him, he's only refused like 2 mice. But his feed schedule used to be very sporadic, so I think he ate when he could, I guess like he would have done in the wild. But now he's on a 10 day feeding regime, he's eating a lot better, even eating two large mice in one sitting now, he's strike feeding as well. Are we lucky with him? Or is Royals not eating not as common as people are led to believe?
Saying all this, we're moving him onto rats soon, and I bet I'll be back complaining that he isn't eating them knowing my luck! |

Hi, from my experience with my 3, I think the majority of royals are very good eaters - just not all the year round lol.
Think this quote sums it all up! That could be the royal slogan! |

Ah, sorry if I sounded as if I was talking about hibernation, Margwar - didn't mean hibernation as such in relation to royals - I meant that for a good few months they are thinking about bed, but definitely not to sleep lol |

Posted - 26/03/2011 : 13:32:09 See, the thing is, he's had rats for a period of time, then he stopped eating them, so we had to go back to mice, I can see that happening again! He's never been one turn down food, all right we occasionally have to swap the type of food, he's never really hibernated and tends to eat throughout the colder months as well.

Posted - 26/03/2011 : 13:00:15 Hi, from my experience with my 3, I think the majority of royals are very good eaters - just not all the year round lol.
My Shahi has had 2 small meals in two and a half months ... and has gained 20g over the same period (just under the weight of his food, as he didn't take a dump during his last shed.) I think they gorge when they're not feeling romantic and then when they get seriously randy, they live on their fat. (And the average royal has plenty of fat to live on!)
When you think about it, it's only the same as hibernation ... in both cases the thought of bed is uppermost, eh?
As for Margwar and rats - didn't he eat a rat for you already? If he's eaten one rat, he'll eat more, sounds like you'll have no trouble! |

Posted - 26/03/2011 : 12:56:33 I've just tried to feed Tia her first rat yesterday and she was not interested at all. I warmed it up a treat and even thawed it out with and gave it a good rub with a mouse, but she still wasn't having it. I even resorted to braining it, but no. She took the mouse straight away though. So my advice to you would be don't get smug . Margwar will get you worrying one way or another. |
