Posted - 26/03/2011 : 21:52:31 khan seems to have something on his left eye. contacted his previous owner and he last shed the first wk of this month. and he said he was always very carefull when checking his snakes eyecaps so doesnt believe its a retained cap. it almost looks like montys eyes were just before he shed last. it looks as if there is another layer on top of the eyeball with a couple of jagged lines running across. |

Posted - 27/03/2011 : 11:35:01 Aw, that's very nice of you to say!
There are people on here who've actually dealt with eyecaps though - they can tell you much more than me. If I was dealing with an eyecap I'd try the damp towel and rub treatment first; you can also put Khan in a damp pillowcase (supervised of course) and as he squirms about (lively lad, I see from your other thread lol) he'll rub his head against the damp fabric and hopefully do all the work for you.
Yeah, a picture would be a good idea, and then someone can advise more.
There's a thread on page 2 of the health section, 'Cracked Eyes' by Jonoandapril, where they post a pic of their snake's retained eyecap - could be useful to compare. The pillowcase and towel method worked for him too.
Good luck! |

Posted - 26/03/2011 : 22:58:30 Hi, I've never actually seen this for myself, but from what other people on the forum have described, it does sound like a retained eyecap.
Have you read the sticky on the health section about eyecaps - there is a photo there that might clarify things.
You could try putting Khan in a ventilated rub with a damp towel for about 20 minutes, supervised, to see if the added humidity loosens the eyecap, if that is what it is. More experienced people will be able to give more advice.
Good luck. |
