Well ma wee matilda did the the most massive poo i have ever seen today, she was most definatly hungry afterwards and was moochin about looking for food, anyway we gave her the mouse which she devoured as though she had never been fed in her life but was still moochin about so....................
we offered her another one which she ate straight away too, now she is so full she can barely move lol, she actually lifted her hide trying to get into it, so my question is this, do you think it was too much to give her 2 mice, they are supposed to be large mice but id say they arent large, her empty weight tonight was 176g and both mice probably came in at about 50-60grams in total???

well since i wrote this thread about too much matilda is now reglarly eating 2 mice, her latest empty weight (she emptied on my carpet!!!!!) was 236g, she is a wee heiffer lol, quite happy n healty i think, will try her on rats or multimamates shortly, we only have 4 mice left so 2 feeds :)
matildasmum Posted - 09/09/2012 : 00:06:04
well in that case i will just go with what she is happy with, she really loves her mice but if rats would be better for her then i dont mind jscketing, apparently its quite a successful way to make the change and im not squeamish about it so it would be an issue really but if mice are ok to give for all her life then we will just continue with what we know she likes best. thanks for all the helpful replys tho, its great here a wealth of knoledge to share, thanks again xx

Jacketing is... well its yukky. You can get two smaller prey items, one mouse, one rat and defrost them together and then offer them. It might work, there are loads of suggestions floating around as to what to do to switch prey but giving them what they want to eat is probably the easiest. Ooh try multimammates, Royals are supposed to love those.

Ive tried tilds on rats before and she was not in the least bit interested, in fact she sniffed it a lot then buggered off in the oposite direction, howver give her a mouse and she is striking at it before youve even got it to her feed box lol, will stick to mice for now i think then night try jacketing a rat to see if she will take it that way, if not two mice it will be for the forseeable future.

RUN RUN AWAY FAST!

Its a commonly debated but rarely concluded debate between snakey people. Its totally relative too, nutrition is based on what the prey item has been fed on etc etc so I avoid using the term nutritious as each individual rat or mouse will be different.

Rats are generally recommended as the food of choice for Royals. Mainly because they grow bigger than a mouse ever could so when the snake is older it can eat just one rat rather than 2 or 3 mice.

I'm actually of the mind that a varied diet is best if it is possible BUT Royals are notoriously fussy and may refuse all other food types if it prefers one thing over the rest so its totally upto the owner as to what you wish to try.
matildasmum Posted - 06/09/2012 : 17:24:20
so what is more nutrisional for her, mice or rats??
she is still on the mooch lol
reptilemadd Posted - 04/09/2012 : 19:11:46
You could give her one of the mice you are currently using plus a pinkie or slightly bigger so that the combined weight isn't more than 15% of matildas weight

Defrost a rat and mouse together and rub the mouse over the rat this may trick into thinking its a mouse
matildasmum Posted - 04/09/2012 : 15:50:52
they are 21g each, she is definatly looking for more than 1 tho, not sure what to try realy, she will not eat rats at all which is a shame as i can get weiners that are a bit bigger than these mice but the next size mouse is far too big!!!!
reptilemadd Posted - 04/09/2012 : 08:32:47
My female is exactly the same, and for a while I gave her two rat fluffs as (from the shop I use ) the next size up was to big for her but the fluffs were too small, and even though she's moved up the little porker still looks for a second lol, as far as advice goes D3l's is right on the mark so can't offer anything new there lol.
Evolution Morphs Posted - 03/09/2012 : 23:26:48
21 grams each or for both ?

If both maybe try a bigger one like I said 17/26 grams
If each one was 21 grams one would be fine
matildasmum Posted - 03/09/2012 : 23:04:12
the mice weigh 21g frozen lol
matildasmum Posted - 03/09/2012 : 23:02:14
think i may have been a tad enthusiastic with regard to the mice weight lol, think the 2 together was more like 30 grams lol, still will keep an eye on her tho, would it mabey be an idea to move her onto the next size mouse if she is looking for mmore than 1 at a time??
matildasmum Posted - 03/09/2012 : 21:56:21
I will keep an eye on her for sure, she always seem to be looking for more after her first mouse, i cant be sure of there exact weight as i dont weigh them but they certainly werent big, however once they were both in her she was full for sure, will weigh her next feed to see what they actually weigh and see from there, thanks for the advice..
AndyJ80 Posted - 03/09/2012 : 21:33:05
That's impressive, I've never had a snake take 2 full feeds within hours of the first.
Sounds like someone definitely needed to fill the void after that massive poo lol
Evolution Morphs Posted - 03/09/2012 : 21:11:41
I'd say yes they were to big
Not that it will be a problem
Just keep an eye on her incase she regurges (shouldnt do though)
Try to aim for 10/15% of the pythons weight

Aim for 17/26 grams in one go

Sounds like she was a hungry girl taking one after the other good girl :)
