Posted - 24/11/2012 : 12:48:11 Ahoy ladies and gents!
Anybody here happen to write fiction?
I'm always working on a story here and there but I've never actually finished one, earlier in the year I decided I'd really put some effort into getting one done and do some real planning for once instead of just hammering away at my keyboard until the creative juices die and I give up.
So here I am now working away on it, trying to get the story structure in place before I actually start writing for once, I've got most of my characters about worked out but I'm guessing they'll come to life a bit more as I actually start writing. I think I'm biting off way more than I can chew but hey it'll be fun!
Just wondering what you guys do when you hit a kind of brick wall! I need to incorporate one more character into my story for things to make sense but I just can't seem to think him/her up, I've been staring at a blank page for about 2 hours now and just can't get it done! Any tips? :D |

Keep up the novel, its always good to read new material by new writers with fresh ideas
I cannot write myself I just dont have the concentration for it, plus my skills in that department are very limited lol. Much more of a maths brain, happy with numbers hehe |

You can't go far wrong loosely basing characters on people you know, its not easy to completely invent a person but taking characteristics from people you know is easy enough, also a good way of realising how mental and quirky your mates are. |

Posted - 25/11/2012 : 03:23:28 Try taking yourself out of the writer's zone for a while. Switch that part off and try taking over the head of one of your main characters.....what type of people would he/she be around or associate with? Get yourself into another perspective and its amazing who you can find lurking in the shadows. Once someone appears in your characters head its amazing what you can find. Hope this helps!!! |

How can you "not be a fan" of Lord of the Rings? that's like saying you're "not a fan of world peace" or "not too keen on being rich" or "don't quite fancy chocolate, beer or whiskey" xD
haha knew i would get a reply like that, i watched the first film an it just didnt interest me at all same with the godfather films |

Posted - 24/11/2012 : 16:23:16 Thinking to hard about the storyline just sitting there never worked for anyone ? Don't try thinking about building the whole text! as a story is made up of sometimes conflicting actions within the charactors actions |

Posted - 24/11/2012 : 12:59:45 Well Tolkien is the way to go!
I do the same, I get a fair few chapters in and then I just stop for reasons I cannot comprehend, it's as if writing is a drug and once I get my fix I don't need to do it anymore. I'm hoping that with all the planning done this time it'll persuade me to carry on. I've stopped writing it all in one document this time around as well I'm writing various stages of the story as they get planned out then hopefully at the end all I'll need to do is join them together and I'll have the bulk of it done. :/ might fail misurably lol |

Posted - 24/11/2012 : 12:56:27 I started writing a novel, all the charactors and the story evolves as I write. I posted on a writing forum and received great reviews..but for some reason I stopped after 5 chapters. I need somebody to help with editing. I really must start again, its a fantasy theme with wizards..not Harry Potter style tho, more based on Tolkien. |
