Posted - 14/01/2011 : 21:26:41 My Royal seems to be eating quite a lot. ATM he's being fed twice a week which is what I was told to feed him when I got him. Had no probs with him feeding even when he went into blue. He shed on tue with no problems and fed then as well but by Thurs was looking around the viv for more so fed again. I'm worried that I might over feed him or do I just need to give him larger mice???
Thanks |

Posted - 15/01/2011 : 19:37:39 How old is he? and how much does he weigh? If you can see that his belly is full, ie, a slight bulge after eating, then he is roughly speaking on the right amount. If there is no difference to his girth after food then he can eat something bigger. |

Posted - 15/01/2011 : 09:41:37 He strike feeds and never had a problem with him taking food even when he was coming up to shed. The pet shop said to feed him on fuzzies but I think the problem is that these are just too small for him so are not satisfying him. I've read up loads on this website which is helping a lot as I'm a complete novice when it comes to keeping snakes even though I did do a lot of reading up on keeping them and took me 2yrs to finally decide to buy one. I just don't want to make him ill by doing something wrong as he's a real part of the family now and we're all very fond of him so any help and advice is appreciated |

Posted - 15/01/2011 : 08:51:08 i went off blackecho's guide originally, but bullet decided that every 5 days when he reached 300 grams was to much for him, so he now gets fed every 7 days, whereas bow is being moved onto every 5 days now |

Posted - 15/01/2011 : 08:18:51 Hi there suzie q as bats said B chart is spot on twics a week sounds to much but if you have not got any scales you can feed a rat as big as the wides part of your snake say if it's as thick as your thumb then it will take a small weaner once a week hope this helps. |

Posted - 15/01/2011 : 08:17:46 Thanks for that. His weight is 150g. I'm off to buy larger prey today because I just don't think what I've got is enough to satisfy him and I don't want to make him ill by feeding him too often |

Posted - 14/01/2011 : 21:34:48 Personally I go by Blackecho's feeding table:
0-400gm - feed every 5 days 400-800gm - every 7 days 800-1200gm - every 10 days 1200gm+ - every 14 days
Feed 10-15% of the snake's weight
I find this works well for my snakes, and I believe a snake needs 5 days to digest.
He's a good 'un though for feeding so well at this time of year! But personally I'd weigh him and take it from there. He might need a larger prey item. All the best. |
