Picked up a female Boa yesterday, she's gorgeous.

After my son got his Royal Python back in novemebr Ive been dying to get a snake of my own. I really wanted something a bit bigger and a common Boa seemed ideal.

The breeder told me to watch her at first because she hasn't been handled that much but she's been absolutely fine, such a lovely termperment.

He told me she's about 5 or 6 months old, apparently he took her back from a young lad who soon lost interest.

Im so pleased with her such, she's gorgeous. i can't believe how much stronger she is than our Royal Jake. You really know about it when she wraps round your arm.

Thanks hun. Pity they don't do mail order. I'm in Coningsby but circumstances prevent me from getting out much and I'd be gone too long if I went to Spalding. Our pet shop is great, but he doesn't have enough sizes of mouse/rats. I'm after some 50grm weaner rats.

Hi Lorraine, thanks for the comments about the viv's

I get my food from a guy in Spalding http://www.prehistoric-pets.co.uk/ same guy I got both my Boa and Royal from. He's an old family friend so i'd always go to him first.

Ooooh, they're gonna be awesome when they're finished. Looking good!!

btw, I see you're in Boston. Where do you get your food from? For the snakes that is, lol.

Congrats, good lass!

She ate her first rat this evening, no problems at all. It was fascinating to watch. She didn't strike at it but i left her alone in the dark for a bit. I came back after half an hour and was lucky enough to catch her just starting.

Sounds really good - imo a front room (or a bedroom) is never complete without a viv or two - and the interior decoration is absorbing - have fun, and I look forward to the pics!
Scottydog Posted - 01/02/2012 : 13:02:12
Im in the process of building a new viv for her beacause I know she wont stay small for long. Im putting a lot of effort into it and want it too look really good inside with fake rock, plenty of greenery and some nice looking branches and vines etc.

I want it to look really impressive in my front room. Ill post pics when Ive got it finished (in the next week or so).

Indeed - I love the rich colours on her; a lot of boas' colouration tends towards the grey (just my personal choice mind.)

Yes, the IBD/quarantine issue is a shame, but best be safe than sorry.

Congrats, she is a most beautiful snake.
Lorraine Posted - 29/01/2012 : 22:34:04
That is one stunning snake. I want one!!!
Scottydog Posted - 29/01/2012 : 19:45:34
Ok thanks, i'm pleased i posted on here now otherwise i'd never have known my error.
GMac Posted - 29/01/2012 : 19:40:52
I know where all our snakes come from, and the breeder is top class and a very good friend. But I still quarantine them ;).
Scottydog Posted - 29/01/2012 : 19:37:33
Thanks for the heads up GMAC, i specifically asked the breeder about handling it with my Royal and he said it wouldn't be a problem, up until now I had no reason to disbelieve him, he's got quite a professional set up and been breeding snakes for years. I got the royal from him too. Thanks for the words of wisdom though much appreciated.
GMac Posted - 29/01/2012 : 19:29:07
gonna be a spoilsport and go on a bit about quarantine. It is incredibly important that your boa is kept totally clear of your royal, for at least 3 months. This also means your hygene between handling snakes has to be spot on. Boas can carry IBD which is deadly to your royal. Also incase of any other bugs or whatnot they boa may carry. It is somuch better to be safe than sorry.

However is a cracking looking boa and will be a great addition
