not a royal but its about ceramic heating.
i noticed a weird hot smell not quite the smell of something burning but similar inside ivans viv, thought it might be the bulb/holder being too close to the roof of the viv so lowered it a little turned back on an the smell started once it got warm.
the bulb rattled a little when i had it out so have got someone picking up a new one.
has anyone else had this problem??
i thought when a ceramic bulb blew it would just stop working like a light bulb

was not happy with the hot/burning smell coming from the ceramic holder so have replaced with one that screws into the roof like i have in my other vivs.
the smell has now gone just smells warm like the others with ceramics and the shop refunded the £18 i paid for it so im no longer worrying about it

there was some dust in the guard where it was sat on a shelf. strange i never noticed till this morning, something must have disturbed the dust

Its dust hitting the surface of the bulb, you'll get it from time to time but its nothing more than particles of dust etc burning off.

it was an old bulb. have now fitted a new one. its nearly up to temp so still running a bit hotter.
checked an there is the same smell it the other vivs that have ceramics just seemed stronger in ivans viv.
thinking maybe the viv had cooled a bit overnight an the smell is just the bulb being a bit hotter

Hi, I've noticed that sort of smell from a new ceramic bulb - it's fine now though and I reckon it was just the newness/bulb coating. I haven't noticed a rattle though.
