Im thinking of building a small rack and im also thinking about using heat cable but I don't know what the best stat would be to use with the heat cable.
Mat stat or Pulse?

I'd say pulse any day. Never realised how consistent they are until I got an old one with some secondhand kit. Dimmers are the most versatile - you can use them with mats, infra red and ceramic, but the pulse is incredible - I installed it with a ceramic and put a digital thermometer in there to check how it performed (usually use temp gun) and the temp never varied.
