Nice weight - and especially after you rescued him from a poor home. Congrats!

im well chuffed with the shed. i removed the hides leaving him with just the damp hide which he curled up behind. same as Shahi he went straight into his big hide when i put it back in.
will measure the shed an get some pics when i get home.

his shed was just under 5 ft so hes roughly 4 1/2ft ish.
he is ignoring his dinner but had a clear out so his empty weight is 1560g

Congrats! Superb shed!

Sorry I missed your post about the damp hide and will they use it if left no alternative. I only did this once ...and Shahi went up on his climbing branch. And stayed there. And even shed (or should that be shred?) there. The minute I replaced his normal hides he slid down from the branch with a sigh of relief; must have been getting cramp up there. And the one time he did try out his damp hide, he left a huge urate ball in it, as if he'd laid an egg. See what I mean, awkward little gits. Though I agree with you - adds variety to life lol.

Congrats again - good old Derek - getting a big lad now judging by the size of that shed!

great start to the day. got up an derek was halfway through his shed, checked a few mins later an found this

its in one peice with eyecaps an tail tip all there. one very happy snake owner today

derek has not left his usual hide since i put the damp one in so when he clears up im thinking of removing the hide to effectivly force him to use the damp hide as i really want him to have a good/full shed.
i cant see any problems with doing this but thought i would ask on here.
granted he may just ignore the damp hide but worth a try
chrisc Posted - 13/02/2012 : 17:53:48
it would be no fun if they did every thing we wanted them to do.
hope so it will easier for me an less stressful for him plus less chance of being pooed on again.
ha the things we do to keep them happy

Lol typical - they never do what you want them to do. Good luck with his shed - after all the trouble you've taken, ought to be a good one!
chrisc Posted - 13/02/2012 : 17:43:00
derek is now in deep blue and have made a big damp hide

and in the viv with water bowl in hot end plus his usual hide in the middle ish with a damp flanel on top of it

put him back in the viv he stuck his head in the damp hide then went off to the other one, ignorant git. will be spraying a few times a day as usual an hopefully he uses the damp one if not it will help with the humidity. fingers crossed
chrisc Posted - 12/02/2012 : 20:24:12
derek has some scarring which might be why hes had trouble before.
if you move the water bowl closer to the hot end it will help keep the humidity up

I've never had a problem with sheds but I've just converted from a tank to a viv so I I think that may change it's surprising how often I need to mist a viv just to keep at 50%

Bloody hell, what you got him on, anabolic steroids??? No wonder he needs to get his tight kit off lol.

Sounds like he's come on really well with you, so good to hear after the rotten home he was in before - brilliant weight gain, congrats and good luck with the shed!
