My R.P. hasn't eaten since november, i'm not neccessarily concerned about this, but what do i try to tempt him with as he does look as if he has lost a bit of weight. He had taken 2 medium rates before he stopped eating, and was oin weaner rats before that. I tried him with a medium rat last week and although he investigated it thouroughly, he didnt eat it. So i was thinking maybe he was a bit overawed by it....so should i try him on weaner rats first or just go straight for medium rats? Thanks

Hi, the ideal weight of rodent for him will be a rat weighing 10/15% of his weight or no wider than his girth, but, having said that, as J says, it's still mating season when they fancy a bit of crumpet rather than a rat. And I like to offer my fasting royals a smaller size of rat; sometimes this does tempt them for some reason.

And imo rat is definitely best, especially as this is what he's used to. Also, size wise they are far more suitable for royals - much easier to feed one rat than several smaller sized rodents.

Could try him on something smaller or try braining the rat, but its that time of year when they have different things on their minds lol
