So for those that read my other post, as you know I was getting a little concerned that Monty had not "left me a present" for around three weeks, prompting me to look into her heating conditions...

Well today I inspected her viv, and found a little poo!! I'm quite relieved to say the least, however a little surprised at just how small the end result was - I was expecting a crime scene considering she's eaten 3 adult mice in the last months.

Anyway - heating: So, after a bit of messing around, I think I've got her heating conditions set up properly (for the time being) - using a basking lamp through the daylight hours, plus a heat mat 24/7, the ambient temp at the hot end is 34degrees, and 24 at the cold end.

My question is; you guys that have IR lamps, do you leave these on 24/7? As my lamp is light emitting, I turn it off at sunset - she still has her heat mat - but the ambient temp drops right down to 24 hot/20 cold. I'm sure I read on some care sheet that the night time temp can be as low as 5degrees, so I've not worried previously, especially since she has her heat mat for if she wants to warm up - but just wondering.

And time for another pic, since I'm here anyway :D

Monty was pooing weekly, usually the day before her feed. Sometimes I would delay her feed a day or two until she'd pood - but since she shed a month ago she hasn't pood since - aside from the small one today that is!

Currently measuring the temp on each side with those stick-on Exo Terra guages - not the best things in the world I know! Will be purchasing a decent digi thermometer or two in the next couple of weeks.

Duke only goes to the toilet about every 3 months. Saves it up until he has a good one brewed.

How are you measuring and regulating your temperatures?

I use ir 24/7, but considering ceramic just as an experiment more than anything

My royal poos about every shed, sometimes (but rarely) inbetween, as for the smell I find it smells like roses compared to gecko poo lol

Hi, royals can wait forever to take a dump - you're actually lucky she went. Usually they wait until they shed - and then produce a humdinger, but it doesn't always follow, awkward little gits. But don't worry, when it arrives you'll know all about it!

And lovely pic - she's sweet!

ps yes I leave ceramics/infra red and for that matter my small snakes' heat mats, on 24/7 as the stat controls them. Yes, the ambient does drop at night, but as long as the hot end retains the required 32c, the snake knows what to do about thermoregulation.
