Hi guys. I'm getting seriously concerned about Oscar now. As I told you he hasn't eaten since 27th July so as said, probably fasting.

However, he's losing a lot of weight and it's really worrying me now. There is nothing untoward to be seen either in his viv or on him and he's beginning to look a bit skinny.

He's gone like this:

6th August - poo and 907gms
22nd August- 879 gms
2nd September - 873 gms
10th September - 882 gms
16th September - shed and 857gms
24th September - 833gms

How can I get him to eat????

Multimammates also known as African soft furred rats are one of the most prolific breeders in the world, inhabiting most of Africa, they have adapted to almost every type of terrain but prefer farmlands and built up areas where food is plentiful. Multis are the natural prey of Royal Pythons which is why many believe they are the best food source for Royals in captivity. I still prefer feeding rats given they grow quicker and provide a more substantial meal but I do have the odd snake that will refuse rats so instead of feeding normal mice which are quite small we choose to feed Multis. Multis grow to approximately 70grams, as i'm sure you can appreciate this is a large margin away from an adult rat but is over double the size of a typical mouse.

People say there like chocolate to the royals
It still might not take a multis but worth a try

Well, still no luck. He just won't take. I'm getting mega worried.

Thanks Del, I'll have a look

I'm in Linconshire, Danno.

Del, I've just googled, so I have to ask hun. What's the difference? Why would he eat one of those if he won't eat his normal rats?

I've googled it but can't find anything D3. What is it?
Evolution Morphs Posted - 26/09/2012 : 16:31:39
See if you can get ahold of some multis
That may kick start his feeding

Thanks for the link Baobab. I hope I don't have to do that, I don't think I'd be able to. Gonna try braining first, then the tuna before anything else.
Baobab Posted - 25/09/2012 : 14:11:05

Better to try the scenting or braining first, but...
Here's a video concerning assist feeding. (Assuming I copied it correctly).

Tuna scenting??? What, open a tin of tuna and rub the rat in it??

To brain it, do I just bash the skull or is there a 'proper' way of doing it?

As to assist feeding, I have absolutely no idea how to do that.
Kelfezond Posted - 24/09/2012 : 22:09:28
I'd try a few more obscure feeding methods, try braining his rat, maybe adding some tuna scenting (i've heard that's good) if no luck I'd consider Assist feeding him the once.

Tried him on his normal Rats Kelf and even some smaller mice but he's not interested. I've tried them cold (which he often eats) and warm too.

Does sound a bit much to lose, what have you tried?
