This is the first time visuki has shed with me and I dont quite know whats normal!
Saturday she had cloudy eyes, she fed on sunday no problem. Her eyes had cleared by monday.
Tuesday she was very wrinkly, she had pee'd everywhere so I gave her a quick bath, thought this might help with her shedding also.
Through the night she has shed some of her skin, mostly from her belly and poo'd. She wasnt very amused at being handled I dont think but I had to clean the tank.
She was sleeping under the bark at the cool end of her tank and felt a bit cold so put her back in hide at warm end.Then something odd happened,I think she gave a little yelp!!! Twice, in the space of ten minutes!
Was it her making that noise or may it have been her rubbing against the hide ( which is ceramic)?
She seems fine, shes been out the hide a couple of times for a nosey around.
Is the above normal? I am a bit of a worry wart at the best of times so ant feedback would be much appreciated.

I,ve noticed sometimes that a couple of days before they shed (after the blue and dull stage), they go lovely and shiny. I,ve been convinced thay have already shed only to find them shedding later. Tricky little blighters. |

There is no such thing as a silly question. Easiest way to tell is turn the snake over and have a look at its belly, if its cloudy and a pinkish colour it is going through the shedding process, this is usually the first sure fire way to tell if its shedding.
When they shed you wont really see any tell tale signs until the process starts. The first stage is their belly goes cloudy and pink. Next they go 'blue' a term used to describe when the skin secretes a milky liquid under the layer of skin they will be shedding away.

Next it all clears, the skin doesn't have the same shine to it any more and scales can look a bit scruffy, then a few days to 2 weeks later the skin will come away. They normally climb out of it all in one go. |

Sorry if I am asking silly questions but is it normal for them to look wrinkly? Is it just the shedding skin?

Thanks folks, Yeah it was either the hide squeeking or suki rubbing against the viv as it's happend another couple of times. I am completely new to keeping reptiles, lots of good info on here though.

They cannot vocalise anything more than hissing, clicking and I think some snakes have mastered a small growl but they have no vocal chords so there is no chance of a yelp. I would say the hide moved and squeaked a little.
I wouldn't encourage moving them from the hide they are in into another, they know what they are doing and regulate their own temperature without any help required. The last thing Visuki wants when trying to cool down a bit is to be shuffled back into the hot bit. Cold blooded animals a lot of the time will feel cold to us centrally heated creatures. I have a corn snake that always feels cold to the touch unless he is sitting on me for a long time then he will take up my body temperature and get really powered up and speedy looking to cool down. I find it fascinating to watch seeing him heating up sitting on my belly then slinking off to the leather sofa to cool back down again. |

Yeah very weird. I didn't think they made noises either other than hissing.

I have never heard mine YELP (not yet at least) can they even yelp? might have been something to do with the shed/hide ?
The time frame seems about right from eyes clearing up to a shed. |
