CC is being SUCH a PAIN! Guy cleaned out his bedding 2 days ago, I bathed CC and did the mite treatment (I do it once a month to keep them at bay). We left him a while to relax, then fed him a weaner rat we bought him to try them out for size. We left it outside his hide like we usually do and normally he takes the prey in about...an hour or so. He didn't take it.
So we re-froze the rat (don't know if you're meant to or not) and tried it on him today. No luck. I tried enticing him with it by making it seem alive by moving it a little. Didn't work. He actually seemed scared of it and hid back in his hide!
It's really frustrating (especially as I've ordered 10 weaner rats for him) It's not as though he's never had them before (he's eaten one before and enjoyed it) so now I dunno....
He shed about, 2 weeks or more ago, his temperature at the moment (with the light off) is 27.2 degrees C. His bark is clean, his viv is clean, he's clean, water bowl is clean and full......argggh....Don't know what to do >_< |

Yeah might help to change the setup/heating around,Rather then using a heatmat.But he might be stressed out,due to all the cleaning,bathing,being sprayed with mite spray every 3 weeks.
Also you shouldn't really re-freeze rats etc. |

The repeated not eating could be down to a dislike of rats but it could be down to the unusual setup for heating you have. If you are using a heat mat and CC is eating weaners that would make him around the 300-500 gram so coming up to being too big for that heat source (in a vivarium). It might be time to start researching alternative overhead heating methods, this will help with temperature control too as lights on timers aren't properly controlled so should not be heat emitting ie a energy saving bulb or LED. |

Ok that's good then, but you still really need to get to grips with the temp set up it will pay off in the long run. |

The light is plugged into a switch which turns light on and off at designated times which is plugged into the wall socket.
Guy has turned up the heat mat so it'll be at 32 degrees C.
I think we've solved the problem, Guy just gave CC a large mouse and he ate it fine!
So it must just be that he doesn't like rats....I know 1 large mouse isn't enough for him (he's about 2 and a half to 3 foot long) so we'll try him on 2 a week. |

You only really need to use mite treatment if you have mites, treating him and bathing him once a month although sounds good in practice really is unnecessary and could stress you snake out. If you cleaning your viv once a month that should be fine. I remember speaking with you before about your light issues, do you have it on a dimmer stat or is it just plugged into the mains. As this could be causing a severe temp fluctuation, your temperatures need to be static ie the same day and night, obviously you will get a night time drop in the cool end , but your hot end needs to stay a constant 32deg if possible this will help your snakes health and enable him to digest properly. Try getting these things put in place and monitor for a week to make sure the drops are not too much and it does not get to hot. Once you achieve this you can rule out set up issues as a reason for non feeding. |

No, he doesn't have mite but I do the treatment as a precaution.
The temp right now is 31.2 degrees C with the light on.
No the light isn't the main source of heat we also have a heat mat with mini stat. The light is mainly for, well, light lol. It's a red bulb.
OK, I'll only bathe him if it's necessary. |

Just a couple of questions so i can try and help, Does your snake still have mites ?
Also 27.7 is a More like the temp for the cool end, well 24-26 ideally your hot end should be around 32 try stabilising the temps and just leave your snake for a week or two without any interaction and try again.you mention that you turn the light off, any reason for doing this and is it your main heat source.Bathes can stress out royals unless really necessary try to avoid doing this.
