Ok thanks I will keep an eye on it. It only comes out a little bit, a few millimeters if that, and she never struggles going to toilet and she is otherwise healthy and happy.
But yes I will keep an eye out and take her to the vets if I see any development in the 'prolapse'.
Thanks for all your help

its only technically a problem or a prolapse when it doesn't go back in, so i wouldn't be overly concerned as yet which is why i'd initially advise to keep a close eye on it. and yes there is surgery depending on exactly which bit is involoved

Thanks GP.
I couldnt get Boo probed this month because of the snow, but i will look to getting her probed in February when I get paid, and while I am there I will ask them about the possible prolapse. The vet will be able to hopefully check it out and see if there is anything she can do.

Can prolapses be...cured?
And if they can does it involve any kind of surgery??

its probably not the anus as such, more likely to be the lower part of the rectum. if it pops back in i'd probably opt to very carefully monitor it but if it EVER fails to go back in the you'd need to take her to a vet IMMEDIATELY

I have looked prolapses up and a lot of the time, it is out of the snake at random intervals, where Boo's just comes out when she goes toilet.
If it is a hemipenes though, arent snakes and lizards meant to have two. And if she does then she is a 'he' and then that might explain it because it is the breeding season despite Boo still being a baby

I dont think it that puffy and of course I hardly manage to see her when she goes toilet so i wont be able to grab a photo. It does pull itself back in when she has finished having a poo.
I would say that it is more of a tube that the actual poo comes out of. I have heard it could be the hemepenes (although i thought that Boo was female).

It's the anus coming out slightly and then going back in. It could be dangerous yes, if it doesn't go back in. Of course, it could be something completely different, we haven't seen it and are guessing. Does it look like the link above?

it has happened everytime she has pooed, doesnt seem to harm her, but what exactly is a prolapse and is it dangerous for my royal? If so what do you advise me doing?

GP is our health expert and it does sound like the start of a prolapse to me.

reptilekeeper1992 Posted - 14/01/2010 : 18:10:16
yea it is attached to the snake
isnt causing her any pain though
errr...im gonna seem stupid ....prolapse???
Gingerpony Posted - 13/01/2010 : 21:34:26
a pink thing? as in attached to the snake or er, leaving the snake?

if it's attached and goes back in it could be a prolapse............
