I have a CB09 Royal python, ive fed him/her twice now, strikes and eats perfectly.
I am feeding him/her in a seperate box to the viv, i just wondered how long to leave him/her in the box before putting back in the viv? i have read not to handle for atleast 2 days after feeding, but it needs to go back in the viv before that.

hmm yeah it was pretty warm.. :S
I just measured the temp of a bowl of water i thought was roughly the same temp as the royals bath was.
it read 35*C, so probably was a bit too warm, ill try and get it closer to 32 next time :) |

By warm, I hope you don't mean warm to you, a warm bath to a Royal (~32C) would still feel cool to you? |

he wasnt hungry today, didnt want the mouse..
so instead i gave him a nice warm bath for 5minutes, hope it will help with his shedding. |

didnt get any pics, stupid camera. allways wants to flash and scare the snake.
i got him out, placed him on a towel (he was in a ball) and gently rubbed him with a damp cloth, he then unballed and got into striking position, following my every move. I gathered the courage to pick him up, gave him a soak for 5 minutes in warm water then put him back in his viv. |

Shedding isnt complete yet - looks like the eyes arnt done either, im gunna give him another warm soak later.
how long should shedding take start to finish? |

robert - no i dont have one but ive been spraying water mist to keep humidity slightly higer, ive been keeping it between 50-70% instead of the normal 40-50.
but i will definetly try your idea out, cheers!
and hes had his bath and i managed to put him back in his viv without any strikes (i think previous strikes could be due to my novice handling, but im quickly learning how he wants to be handled ect. keeping things slow and supporting his body - not holding hands in front of his head, allways picking him up from behind. |

took him out and put him in a damp towel for a few minutes, helped peel a few bits of shedding off, he is very scared but no strikes to report.
hes just in a few cm's of warm water now, then ill put him back in the viv - hopefully we can continue the trend of no strikes :) |

Have you got a warm damp box in his rub to assist his shed ? sometimes they don't shed completely especially if the humidity is low, I always put a tupperware box with a hole cut in the side in their rub/faun/viv, put a damp clean flannel or dishcloth in there and leave him for another day or two and check again the extra humidity always seems to assist |

give it a soak for 5 min in bath or damp towel i handle mine 4 time a week never struck had him over a year sounds dehydrated defrost mice in water and leave wet hope this help i not an expert but works for me snake loves to come out everyday lol mines very active out and climbing all over every day good luck |

and to add, the shedding is not complete either - eyes has not shed and part of the body still is clearly unshed. |

he/she realy didnt like being check at all, i picked him up (he was in a ball) and held him in cup hands to check his skin and he struck - missed me but he struck, put him back down on the substrate and struck repeatedly as i put his hide back in.
someone help.. is this normal?! - ive had him for 10 days now, fed twice (a week apart) and rarely handled.. his skin still looks like it does in the picture, im slightly worried... |

Wouldn't go for a soak yet, just check to see if they have finished shedding. Check the viv for any bits of shed, look for eye caps. |

checking for skin still attached or not shed properly, and if so giving him a quick soak? |

caught my snake out of his hide lastnight when i got home late, he looked like he might of just had a bathe, his tail was still in the bowl a little. Then he 'stargazed' for a while, what does that mean? then went back to his hide :)
weird though, i only fed him 10 hours before he came out like that. |
