Hi, I've got to the stage where a mouse is too small so i need to get him to try and eat a rat. I have tried him on rats but he wasn't interested. Any tips on getting him started on rats please??

Thanks

still no joy with the rat weaners, seems interested or hungry untill he realises it aint a mouse and then he aint bothered. just wondered if there are any other methods as i really dont fancy going down the mouse jacket route yet?

i will keep perservering then. and pray 2 god he eats 1 before i have 2 smear it in mouse guts. the things we do ah...

I would personally keep perservering.
If still no luck in a few weeks time I would maybe try a mouse jacket, or the nasty messy business of smearing the rat in the mouse guts (worked for me, but stinks!).

unfortunately, dunc still hasn't taken 2 rats. left him 3 extra days for his feed, brained the weaner rat, defrosted the rat in a small bag with a small mouse but still he wasn't interested. he's a fussy eater anyway so do i just keep perservering with the weaner rats or back 2 the jumbo mice? any more tips please?

All my royals were on mice as hatchlings but all went onto rats as soon as they were big enough and without a problem, just start with rat weaners of a similar size or slightly larger and make sure you leave them the extra day or two so they are really ready to eat and you shouldn't have a problem, if all else fails then as BE suggests above a small hint of mouse may just be enough, whatever don't panic and leave a few more days before attempting to feed and you will find that they should take rat weaners without an issue

Don't start on mice at all

Anyways, you could try defrosting them together with a very small amount (a handful) of water in a sandwich bag so that the scent mixes in the rat/mouse soup giving them a good rub together.

Tried warming them up or braining them?
