Hi
Have an 09 male Royal Python who has shed once perfectly. Second time round he has left a bit on his tail. Do I leave it? Will it cause problems?
He eats well, 1 large mouse a week, when would he go to rats? How do you tell what size to give him?

By warm, remember that reptiles are cold blooded, warm to you and me will be burning to them, keep the water to around the temp of the hot end of the viv so ~32C. After its had a 15-20 min soak, allow it to run through a damp towel/flannel applying gentle pressure to help remove the shed left.
Next time he sheds it would be worth putting a damp hide in to use, I use the 2L Ice Cream tubs with a hole cut in the top half full of Sphagnum Moss.

Hiya....thanks for that, I'll get the kitchen scales out!
He doesn't have access to a damp hide, he out grew the one he had for his first shed. He now has hides made out of pieces of stone that are wedged together. Seems to really like them! We have been soaking his tail in warm water each day, will this help?

You don't want to leave it really no, the old skin will tighten and can stop blood circulation to the tail, causing the end to drop off. How long since the shed started? - Has the snake got access to a damp hide?

Honestly, there's no reason for them to ever have mice, they can go to rat pups from hatching. I would suggest you move over asap before they are too addicted to mice. Aim for a rat that weighs 10-15% of the snake's body weight.
