I have bought a male royal python 5 weeks ago, and still not eaten. Its drinking water, moving around at night. It shares its viv with my female python. My female python is eating religiously, and don't have problems. Can anyone help how ways to try and get him to eat. He goes up to the mice, smells its, but then just goes away. I know pythons can be fussy eaters but im a worrier. Is there any advice anyone can give me? All advice much appreciated :) |

mine hasn;t ate since 1st feb!!! hes hardly lost any weight so I believe no need to worry |

5 weeks isn't long for a Royal, especially after a move. They take ages to settle in.
I echo the above, seperate them if you can. Preferably put the male in a smallish, dark, enclosed feeling RUB so that he will feel secure and he should start eating again. |

I agree with what Spor has said.
1. Royals are not communal animals so may become stressed with co-habitation, let alone risks of passing on diseases/cannibalism/premature breeding etc.
2. The move can easily put them off their food for a while, if they're not losing weight/condition they should be ok.

first thing i would do is house him in his own rub/viv!
what age is he? was he eating mice before? how are you heating the prey?
weigh him so you can keep track of any weight lose. You are right they can be fussy .I have 2 at the minute that haven't eaten in over 3 months but they are not losing weight so i know they will eat when ready.
The stress of the move and being housed with the female could be putting it of food. Or maybe its just not warm enough. have you tried to offer rats? |
