Was holding Velvet earlier and i bent over to sit down and she very gentle boofed my leg with her mouth/ chin. It wasn't hard, i've seen her striking at the glass doors in the viv harder - but this dribble came out?! it was clear but the consistency was a little bit thicker than water. a fair amount came out, has any one else seen/had this with their pythons?

She seems fine now, but i though i'd post this cos i don't know what it is..

Thanks in advance!

Ah okay, i might leave her go a few days over feed. Although she does have 2 small weaners inside her from sunday so that might add a bit more weight. Ill definately keep an eye on it though.

Mischang- yeah i was so nervous. Almost cried when the vet gripped her head to look in her mouth. Im so attached to my girls its unreal. Im just glad nothing sinister is going on :-)

Only just got a chance to get online. Vet said that she looks great. No signs of an RI thankfully! He said she's clear, great condition and her viv setup/ temps are spot on. He also weighed her- 605g at 8 months old, that sound about average to you guys? The vet said a little on the chunky side. Basically overweight a little :-\ i dont think so?

hello mischang the food i was giving them was actualy quite small. and i fed them in th morning and she had the fit thing in the night, i dont realy know what it was or anything, it was just stressful watchin it and the hassle i had with the 1st one and th death of the second just made me think i was doing something wrong, and it just made me give up on keeping them. the 1st oe i had ate a few days after taking her back to the vet and she had it in a viv with a smaller one n she said she saw it take a chink out of the smaller ones face n it looked like a nasty cut tbh.

sorry for going off topic like lol.

i hope you royal is ok girl harry.and the vets around mine is a bit steep aswl lol. scousers for you round here :P oj lol

I think that is very expensive TBH. I would expect it to be around £25-£30 for a consult.

Eeessh. Not good then. I think ill use an alternative vets next time. (Well, hopefuly there wont be a next time but y'know) ill post an update when ive returned from the vets!

same as here thats alot i think you should look about but if your limited there is not much choice.
Also about above link
i have bred beardies for some years now and what you have discribed is a choking fit well there are still growing you do have to be very careful wat size food you give they will eat it no matter wat but if its wider than there head if it doesnt choke them into spiting it up right away just been lifted out of the viv could cause it to rupture hence what you saw and causing the throat to swell which you cant always see due to the beard and wind pipe closes. And due to your shop not been top noch shall we say it may well of been in with other bigger lizards and been bashed about then with moving the stress could cause the death i myself learned the hard way back in the day ! am sooooooooo glad you have things sorted . hope that sheds a wee bit of light for you in either case it would not of been your fault , maybe a little mis guided x x x

the vets in my area is about £38 for a consult for reptiles, and then continued treatment went down to somethin like £25 every visit but if you didnt go back with the same problem after like a month n you needed to go in with the same problem it would go back up to full price.

going of subject but when i was 1st looking for a snake i asked me mum to take me round the petshop to have a look at them but she fell in love with bearded dragons so i ended getin 1 of them instead of a snake. but when i got it it didnt feed for a while and obviusly i got worried so i ended taking it to the vet after 2 weeks because it starded to look skinny after payin a few quid for the treatment i took it in and he said bring some poo in so when it pooed (it took a while due to him not eating) i got charged full price gain and he said he wanted to send it of to be anylised properly what cost about £50 quid n i said no n went into the petshop i got it from and asked if they could change it and she said we shouldnt realy but i will ( the reason being she took it back is because of the colours and she wanted to breed it and i shouldnt have been sold it) o i got another 1 when i got enought money she gave me 1 to replace the 1 i took back and i bought a second and they where ok and then after 1 week 1 of the ****ers died on me n i rang her up n said listen 1s just died on me. n i tell it was horrible. i got them out of the tank and put it on me bed n ext thing it started having a fit and stuggling for air. it wasnt a nice site to see. n i sai im bringing the other 1 bck in she gave me the snake inreplacement for the 1 i took bk in n made the price difference up with some equiptment n i got fook all bk for the 1 what died.

i suspect it had a R.I, and i dont know if it was anything to do with me but i was cheacking everything was right and so on, but she told me it must have jumped of something and broke her neck, but if that was the case it would have killed himafter she jumped of something.

a question do you think it was my fault she had an R.I or it had it befor i bought her.

after i took the other beardie in she gave me some stuff i went home cleaned everything out got everything set up and then went and picked a royal and now here i am now with a lovely royal, and a forum full of the most helpful ppl i have met :)

I have an appointment booked for tomorrow, 3:15. I hope she's okay. We'll see! I've been told the vet's consultation fee alone is £40.85, is that about average?
mischang Posted - 24/05/2010 : 10:08:05
yes but if you have never done it b4 ask them and they will show you how to draw up meds in a needle properly so not to inject air also ask where to inject as it must be in top 3rd of body i tend to do it between 2 saddle markings so i can do it right away , but to be fair not sure if any one else has been able to do it on there own but i have to get some one to help as i cant hold them safely and inject, but you may not get same advice ! any thing your not sure about ask even if it sounds daft as thats what your paying for if you feel you cant inject if need be ask can you pop in every time she needs a jab a pain i know but they might charge appointment fee each time or ask for a nurse to do it then it should only be a couple of quid but try your self if your able we all have to start some where hun . if any one thinks that is incorrect plz do correct x x
GirlHarry Posted - 24/05/2010 : 09:08:54
Ah right then. Well i'll get in touch today and make an appointment.
You had to administer the injections yourself?
Where?
mischang Posted - 23/05/2010 : 23:13:07
it was £25 for appointment and including meds was £41 which i thought was great really good i came away with 500mg of fortum ceftazdime which is dosed according to weight and is injected every 3 days for 3 weeks which the 1st couple of times was easy peasy but as she is getting better we struggle with 2 of us a 5 ft 3.2 kg on empty p*ssed off royal is not ideal . You could always call up ask how much the appoinment is first and then say when you getr there i only have etcc so if its more can i have some of meds and pick rest up when u get paid if not to far away .
GirlHarry Posted - 23/05/2010 : 21:28:48
Okay.. thanks.

Mischang - What did the vets give you? and if you don't mind me asking - how much did the trip to the vets cost you? Not that i mind, i'll pay any price for treatment, i just need to see if i can take her tomorrow or wait til payday this week.
I might call them tomorrow and make an appointment.
mischang Posted - 23/05/2010 : 12:36:52
was about to say as above my new gal last week had wat i would class as aleast 3 mouths of water like slobber and she does have an R.I at present i wouldnt wait as if she has been doing it against viv as well she prob has been tryin to unlodge to mucus hence the pushing ,if she does it again in next 2 days or opens her mouth to breath even a tiny bit or bulges under neath her chin then take her hun x x
GirlHarry Posted - 23/05/2010 : 12:20:20
Really?? :| should I get her checked out at the vets or just keep a close eye on her for any breathing issues for now?
Blackecho Posted - 23/05/2010 : 12:06:57
Keep a close eye on her, may be the start of an RI.
