Posted - 21/07/2010 : 10:27:57 hi everyone my bp (colin) will now only eat chicks. after his winter fast last year he picked up a thermal burn from stated mat after shedding. took colin straight to vet and received a four injection course of antibiotics which seemed to do the trick until it happened again on the next shed. only this time he wasn't on mat but ceramic bulb (with guard) so took him straight back to vet and recieved round 2 of injections.(please note his viv is imaculate cleaned every day with paper replaced). After second course of injection's he seemed to be ok with belly healed. but would not feed on anything, bearing in mind he'd fasted for winter plus a good few month while infection was resolved. tried everything mice, rats, gerbils, hamsters(all pre killed) then as last resort tried a chick unbeleavably he strike fed immediatly(alway left food in viv before). only problem is he will now only eat chicks. Ive heard of methods about attaching rat's etc to your chick to trick feed them. can anyone let me know more about this. also will dipping chick in multivits make up for the lack or protien in chicks. he gradually lost weight but only a small amount week on week but now seems to be putting it on but again only a small amount.

Posted - 24/07/2010 : 13:50:17 could you try feeding the rat straight after the chick - ie as soon as the chick is disappearing offer the rat? |

Posted - 24/07/2010 : 11:17:31 well tried covering rat in chick he struck it then dropped it and wouldn't go back to it i've put a chick in last night and dusted it with calcium and vit's which he ate straight away so am not sure what to do now a don't really want to starve him until he'll take a rat as he's only just started to gain weight since his winter fast. and i don't want to jepadise his him eating regularly again |

Posted - 21/07/2010 : 16:22:37 I would try getting him all excited about the chick by teasing him then offer the rat instead.
or...
I would cut the chicks wing off and push it in to the rats mouth. |

Posted - 21/07/2010 : 16:11:47 you could try defrost a rat and a chick in the same bag so its sented. |

Posted - 21/07/2010 : 11:41:43 You could try using the chick as a jacket over a rat. You`ll need to push the inurds of the chick out then put its skin over the rats head. |
