Just been watching this on youtube, I always thought heat mats were a bad idea?

heat mats are fine as long as they are under under the enclosure, like RUBS, as the snake can't sit directly on it risking thermal blocking

they are no good in vivs as they would have to be in side the viv, this means the snake could sit on it. plus they are contact heaters and wont heat the air in the viv

I think that as it is a video made by a company that makes the product placed see-through box thing (do you see the problem there with clear boxes been not for your ball python lol) the heat sources he runs through wouldn't work in that product. (Also a slight misunderstanding of radiant heat vs heat rises)

With the heat mat/pad been under the tank and not inside it then its pretty much a posh and expensive RUB and not really something comparable with our commonly used wooden vivariums. I would be concerned if the whole weight of that tank was on the mat/pad as the weight of a tank could be enough to set thermal blocking in action I wonder if it has feet enough for a suitable air gap? I couldn't see one in the video.

PS I love the Canadian accent, its so good.
