Ok, I have tried to put a guide together to help others to understand the genetics, let me know if it doesn't make sense:

Hope that makes sense?

Thanks for this BE have been trying to get my head around the whole genetics thing.
As I'm starting to look into the idea of breeding eventually.
Thanks again.

Ah, been after something like that for a while
mischang Posted - 08/06/2010 : 23:10:28
interesting ! certainly useful

I think your introduction above is a great and simple explanation and set me off doing some more research into morph outcomes, I only got my first royal 8 weeks ago and it has whet my appetite for breeding and decided it was time to learn more about the genotypes, thanks again and will post a thread of findings as soon as I feel I can contribute something uselful.

I have no background, so if you see any mistakes please let me know.

Thanks BE I have just worked it out but I appreciate the prompt response, have a minor background in genetics so I was curious to work this through :) thanks again :)
Blackecho Posted - 08/09/2009 : 21:39:45
There are many, hence the ability to get combinations of multiple genes.
Robert Posted - 08/09/2009 : 21:34:35
Just one point BE is there only one loci that determines colouration/markings or are ther many locations on the gene pair ?
Robert Posted - 08/09/2009 : 21:10:47
Thanks for the diagrams and the explanation BE it's Mendelian but great to know which are the dominant genes in Royals

OH was coming around to the idea of breeding first generation and having two permanent snakes but I think she'll go Chenobyl if I go for 2nd generation.

I think I'll forget the idea of breeding royals and leave that to you guys.

lol... that is true...
Blackecho Posted - 15/11/2008 : 16:59:05
If they know, they'll have charged you for it
Paulusworm Posted - 15/11/2008 : 16:41:09
If they don't know then I guess it's just a case of luck then.
dazb Posted - 15/11/2008 : 16:06:34
they may not know. worth asking though...
Paulusworm Posted - 15/11/2008 : 15:50:57
I didn't even ask if he was het or not. Just met him at the pet shop and said yep, I'll take him. I'll chase them up for the info when I go up there next.

As Daz states, they would all be normal het Albino, see above, with recessive genes you need a pair of genes (Sherman won't be able to provide one) to be visual Albino.
dazb Posted - 15/11/2008 : 15:30:08
unless sherman is het albino...
dazb Posted - 15/11/2008 : 15:21:16
you would get 100% Het Albino's...

Was considering a homozygous albino.
