It seems I have a poorly little boy :-(

He's got inflammation in his mouth and his glottis is staying open. The vet was superb, she gave him the equivalent of a snake protein shake, which is like 3 weeks meals, I've never heard of it before, but it's imported from the states and is an alternative to force feeding. Basically he has an infection and he said it looks pretty sore in his mouth which explains the non-eating, he's had a pain killer and some antibiotics.

On the down side I've got to inject him every 3 days for the next 3 weeks with more antibiotics, which is going to be fun!

yes they are, also had to give jeff some fluid injection that took a few minutes to do that was a right pain at least the antibiotic ones only take a few seconds to administer

That's what I've been doing chris, but they're wriggly little buggers aren't they!

I'm sure he's going to snap the needle one day the amount he tenses up.

when i had to inject my rat snake on my own i stuck his top half into a pillow case an held him still with the open end of the case wrapped around him while doing the injection still a bit tricky but worked ok.
hope he starts feeling better an feeding soon

Update on Monty

Well, he's still not interested in eating, although I'm trying him every week. The good news is that he has only lost 7g since I took him to the vets nearly 3 weeks ago.

The injections are interesting, especially when I've tried doing them on my own!

Fingers crossed he'll be better soon

Ah poor little devil! Very sorry to hear!

I've heard of that meal replacement stuff before and it sounds really good - one member on here lives in the US and she and her vet reared a really frail non eating baby on it.

Hopefully the infection will subside now and at least you know he's got something nourishing in his belly.

Good luck with the injections and best wishes Monty for a speedy recovery - next step pics of him scarfing down his rat!
