Hi

I am the very proud but new owner of Harriet a beautiful 8 month old Royal Python. Have had her about 2 weeks. She is doing fine, has eaten once and seems to like to be handled.

I am keeping her in a small tank that the supplier told me to keep her in (seems too small to me)and I can only fit in it a little hide and a very small water bowl. The hide is natural bark but there is not much of an arch and I am not sure she can fit in it properly. Anyway since yesterday she has not gone into the hide she is just lying outside watching. She is due to be fed today - do you think she is doing that because she is hungry or do you think there might be another reason?

One more question - I already have a bigger vivarium ready for her how do I know when to put her in it?

Sorry for questions but have read every care sheet I can get my hands on but some things not really clear.

Thanks in advance

Annie

Hi Annie.

You really ought to offer hides at both ends so that the snake has the temperature option. Your Royal is probably loving the cramped space, they thrive on it.

A general rule of thumb is length of viv + width of viv = length of snake.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for all your welcomes and for the advice. Harriet ate again last night so think she must be feeling happy and settled so going to leave her in the small plastic tank for now.

Will post a picture of her larger vivarium before I put her in it for further advice.

I love all your pictures - they are beautiful snakes aren't they.

Enjoy the sunshine.
