Last night chowder got out of his viv, the room he's in is locked so he couldnt have gone far, any advice in finding him, I've now put his viv on the floor so he can get in to it and hopefully he would stay, has this happened to anyone else? |

Start at the vivarium and circle outward in a search, turn everything upside down. Think snake though, small dark spaces. Careful when doing washing too they can climb into piles of clothes. |

when my corn escaped, she curled herself up under a sofa cushion. I checked all the dark and 'secure' areas first, it does involve thinking like a snake, just ask yourself "wheres warm, dark and safe" |

Get yourself a high bucket, infact a food bin might work good. You want something that said Snake can climb up to the top of the bin, a ladder of some sort. Maybe a plank of wood. Make sure it can't slip off the bin. The bin needs to be high enough that once Snakey is in the bin they can't get back out again. Bare in mind that Snakes can stretch up.
Defrost a Mouse, or Rat, whatever Snakey eats and put nice smelly food in the bottom of the bin. If your up to it you could brain it to make it smell even tastier.
Wait.
If your lucky Snakey will be hungry and will go find that dinner. In the morning you'll find fat Snake in a sulk at the bottom of the bin. |

Hope you find him soon, I've got a corn MIA at the mo, I tried bottle traps (too small for a royal) for weeks but he's been gone a couple of months now. I have heard loads of stories of them turning up in the weirdest places, including one person's cutlery drawer, so just make sure you warn anyone else in the house. The other thing that might be worth a try is to cool down the rest of the house and keep the room with the viv in warm, this should encourage chowder to stop in one room. it is also worth putting a line of talc across your door bars so you know if he's moving around. |

My mam had a Corn Snake as a kid (one of many) and it went missing once. Was missing for months, and then one cold winter morning she found it... stretched out under the front door mat! She told me it looked like a skinny draught excluder X )
Snakey was a bit thin and was cold, but it was fine after a warm up and a good feed : )
I'm sure you'll both find your naughty Snakes soon. |

BlueDragon it's a shame snakes can't talk, I bet that corn snake had a few tales to tell of its month on the loose! |

Well there's a lock on the viv now and he's booked in at the vets at Friday just for a check up, more for my own peace of mind. But I've told him he's not going out Saturday night lol |

one of mine escaped the other day and had a roam around the room it was in. Things were knocked over on the other side of the room that were left upright. Must have been overnight but we found him quickly. Also Amber managed to push herself out of her rub when I was watching her! Little git. 2 snakes of mine got out within 5 days. :)
Anyway, glad you have Chowder back ;) now time to look for snake poo in the room =D |

Great news. Youll be able to sleep more soundly now instead of listening for every little noise. Bet he'll be eagre for a mouse now as well. |
