my royal was out in his enclosure late the other night (1 day after feeding) and i put something ontop of his exo terra just for a second and he took two strikes at it.these were full on strikes his nose nailed the lid of the enclosure.
was he just scared or is he going to try and swipe my hand now everytime i go to get him out? im actually quite nervous now as i havent seen him react like this. it was SO fast the fastest thing i have ever seen with herps.
please advise. |

probably just took him buy suprise.
little tip if you are nervous, when you life the hide, tilt it slightly and lower it infront of his face so as to block his view, as you do this take him by the body in an area he isnt facing. |

You have a Pacman, you are a million times more likely to get tagged by the evil frog than a placid fat sausage snake. As with all snakes though if you give them reason to bite they will bite so just avoid sudden moves towards the head (its taken me 2 years to get my Royal to permit his head to be touched). I'm guessing something suddenly been above startled your guy enough for him to defend himself.
They are lightening fast aren't they, most of us have been struck at or tagged at some stage and it is very true that the strike is faster than you can react so quite literally it is over before you know it. |

You are right about pacmans, they can be fiesty!
On the other hand, heald my royal the other night and he was ok but a bit nervy at first. I'm sure it was just a gut reaction to thinking a bird or something was about to kill him.

He hasn't eaten for about ten days and instead of striking at his food to eat it he strikes at it as if it's a threat.
I think he's due a shed and a good clean out. Is this normal behaviour? He hasn't been out at night hardly at all lately either |

| i'd also advise to stop handling, until he's eating solid. my female wouldn't feed regularly and now that I've stopped trying to handle her, she's decided to feed everytime |

29c-31c warm end. i actually havent handled him for about 4 days now. i offered food which he struck at telling it to leave him well alone.
Something must be bothering him but not sure what. He is due a shed though like i say and a good poo. |

yes and i had a little hold late last night and he seems back to himself.
i think he likes to be left well alone when hes about to shed. he must feel vulnerable or something |
