I wish people would research a subject before they spout out their dribble. In todays world ignorance is no excuse. |

HA! Wow, some people really are keyboard warriors with absolutely no knowledge of the subject they feel so strongly against. First thing was the 'Sugar Cane Toad', that must be a special morph of the Cane Toad or as its also known the Marine Toad. 'Insect explosions' as a direct result of keeping exotic animals?
I do agree that the exotic animal trade is established enough that wild caught animals are required for any reason other than preserving a critically endangered species. Take for instance the extinct animal I have in my bedroom, Crested Geckos were so rare they were thought extinct. Now there are loads of them, maybe not in the wild; habitat destruction is seeing to that but this animal is now preserved. I'm sure there are loads of similar stories.
The threat to exotic species are habitat destruction for agriculture. So in the jump on the 'banned' wagon fashion, ban farming, ban eating food grown on farms, ban meat reared on farms, ban farmers markets.
I am pro better control of the pet trade, but for all animals not just exotic animals, each animal should be registered to an owner and they should be accountable for that animal. In Belfast (where I live) I have to license my dog each year to be allowed to keep one. |
