| Set up is 3ft x 15" x 18" high wooden viv. Guarded ceramic on a pulse stat. Cool end temp is 26c-28c and hot end is 30c-31c under his hot hide and 33c on top of his hot hide. Stat Probe is placed roughly 8" off the floor at the back of the viv approx 3-4" from bottom of ceramic guard making roughly 6" from actual bulb. My concern is the air temps. It feels really hot when we open the doors the heat seems to build up and rush out at us. The air temps in the cool is 33c about 6" off the ground and hotter the further up you take readings. God knows what it is near to the ceramic. Why is it getting so hot? All temps are taken using digital thermometers. Nigel seems fine in himself eating well he doesn't soak in his bowl so I assume he is not feeling to hot. But these air temps do concern me. |

it will feel fairly warm in there with the ceramic but if your measuring the hot temps from inside the hide it will be much hotter in the viv.
is the hot hide directly under the bulb? |

| The hot hide is slightly off centre to the ceramic. He seems happy with the temps being 30c-31c in his hot hide and a couple of degrees warmer on top of it. I my self am happy with the temps we are achieving at ground level its the air temps I was not sure of. His last shed was not good, the first shed since moving into the viv. He has always shed complete when he was in his RUB but now he is growing rapidly and is happy in his viv so do not want to go back and use a RUB as I do not like using RUBS as permanent housing for snakes. I know that ceramics does dry the air so he has large water bowl situated just to the side of the ceramic and he has moss box put in when in shed but this made no difference. I was wondering if these hot air temps can be reduced in someway but still keep his ground level temps as they are. |

sounds ok to me then i only measure the hot spot but will check the temp further up with my IR temp gun just out of interest.
next time he goes into shed put a damp flannel ontop of the hot hide an keep it moist also mist the walls with water 2-3 times a day an see if that helps.
depending on the viv height you could put a shelf under the bulb to raise the hot spot if you really wanted to but dought it would make too much difference.
when i moved my big royal into a different viv with a 150w ceramic he had 3 or 4 terrible sheds so i did the flannel thing an sprayed the walls an he shed much better that time |

| In my experience ceramic heaters dry out the viv. During normal non-shedding time this won't be an issue, but during shedding, boost the humidity with a flannel and spraying the viv |
