Hi mike and welcome to the forum. yeah plenty to read on here to help you with your first snake. as for a buying tip. make source you are getting your royal from a good source and that it is being kept in good conditions. make sure you handle the snake yourself and give it a good look over getting for mites or any sores/burns. also have a good look at around the mouth for signs of sores or mucus. listen carefully as well for and crackling when the snake is breathing. if the snake is not in perfect condition and feeding well then don't buy it( especially as it is your first snake) regardless of what the person in the store says....
You should have the viv/rub set up and running a couple of days at least before your bring your snake home. This will allow time for temps to settle and allow you to make any needed amendments with out disturbing a new snake. when you get your snake home you need to LEAVE IT ALONE.9 no handling for at least a week giving it time to settle in to its new home. just make sure you are supplying it with fresh clean water every other day. good luck and look forward to seeing what you buy.

heya and welcome
you WILL be able to keep a constant temp with a stat, that's what stat's are for, although some types eg. pulses and dimmers, are more acurate than others eg. on/offs and temp stats |
Dumerils boas, BCO hybrids, Sinder Hypo boas, cornsnakes, ratsnakes, Day Geckos

The best option for a heat mat would be a Pulse Proportional Stat, for a bulb, a Dimming Stat. |

congratulations. did you manage to get a thermostat and your temps at the right level? what size of prey is she feeding on at the minute.? remember to leave your snake for a week before handling and make sure it is not in a room were there is a lot of traffic as the constant movement of people passing will stress it out and make it difficult to settle.. good luck and enjoy.
this is were all the worrying beings as a new parent just remember that there are a lot of people here if you have any questions just ask or use the search option at the top of the page and you might find your question has been answered already. |

Everything is all set for the snake, it's feeding on small mice atm. He is in my room so there is only really 2 people in there but as we both work there isn't much movement that goes on there. I'm really chuffed bout my royal it's settled in really well : ) |
