hi everybody i have just bought my first royal python its 2months old and i have had it 1 week i have 6 corns and 1 sinolian milk snake that are all doing well my question is the snake keeps yawning and has a very mucas mouth it is blowing bubbles its breathing seems to be very slow and opens its mouth every time it takes a breath am i right to be worried

It sounds like the start of a R.I (Respiritory Infection). A visit to the vets is nessesary im affraid. Caught early enough it is nothing to worry about.

What are its temps..? How is it heated..?

hi dazbthe temps are around 84 to 86 and the viv is heated by a heat mat that covers half the viv the cool end a little lower in temp he has a hide and a water bowl thats all

Whack the temps up, in general to 90 and whilst trying to help get rid of an RI, up to 92ish.

hi again just been in touch with shop i bought it from they said put temp up to 90 and remove water bowl they also said to take it back they would sort the problem and if i wanted i could take another snake instead

If you do decide to keep it and try and sort it yourself, I would strongly recommend not removing the water bowl and getting a rep vet to take a look.

If you haven't yet grown attached to it, then it may be for the best to exchange for another.

hi only named it yesterday called it bobby how can you not become attached to something so beautiful i'll take it back tommorrow see what they have got to say and make a decision then many thanks to the people who replyed to this topic and will keep informed on my decision

hi just an update on bobby i took it back to shop and exchanged him for another which doesn't seem to have any of the symptoms of an ri it is a little larger but as soon as he got in his viv his tongue was out and he was all over before entering his house wont see him again now for a week and i have decided to name this one bobby as well thankyou all
