Hello all, I brought my first royal 8 days ago now which I absolutely adore. I tired to feed yesterday but he didn’t take the food so I shall try again in a week. Here are some pictures of the little guy on the first day I got him. Iv put aspen in his Faunarium now and I removed one of the hides to take the photo

Very nice, welcome to the forum. I'd suggest not handling until you have him eating if I were you. |

yh im just going to leave him alone for the next week now and then try him again on a small mouse, Iv read through a lot of the forum posts on eating and they all say different things on which is the best way to defrost the mice. Yesterday i left it out for about 2 and half hours then ran it under warm water for a minuet or two but would that of likely to of washed the smell of the mouse away? Which way would you recommend? |

Personally I defrost at room temperature and then warm with a hair-drier (near the viv so that the snake smells it coming). If you want to put it in warm water to heat, put it in a sandwich bag first so that it doesn't get wet and wash the scent away as you said. |

and yes, agree with BE above, it WILL have washed the scent away and is likely to have put your royal off.... i heat mine immediately prior to feeding in a plastic tub OVER a mug of hot water |

Hi and welcome. Larger prey items i leave to defrost om top of my vivs for a couple of hours and then blast with the hair dyer for about 30sec. smaller items like mouse fluffs and small adult mice i leave out to defrost and then leave them on the side of a heat mat beside a rub for a few minutes. |
