so... V is 6 months old now. We've moved house recently and the flat i'm in now is colder than we're all used to. Gutted, i didn't think she would be much colder. Her viv is a few degrees below what it should be, but not by much. I should've went and got another heat lamp for her straight away. But with the move, it slipped my mind. I noticed she was rubbing her head against things, and then a few days later she started letting one side of her jaw hang open a little. She started really hissing at me when i went near her, so i took her to the vet. She's got mouth rot. I feel bloody aweful! It's my bloody fault. I love that snake. She'll be looked after for a few days at the vets. I hope she'll be okay :'( Do royals normally get over mouth rot? She wont die will she? x

I'm sure she will be fine after some antibiotics. Gives you a chance to sort the viv while she's away too.

Dont blame yourself... at least you did the right thing and got her to the vets straight away, and like BE says, gives you a little time to sort out the viv.

I hope she makes a quick and full recovery.

a course of antibiotics should sort her out. if she's in for a few days she'll probably be on injectables while she's there and come home with the rest of the course to be given either orally or by injection if you're happy to do it. tbh it's not that bad although i do hate injecting my own animals!!
for oral abx it's likely to be Baytril which you often have to draw up yourself from a bottle but it's dead easy and the discharging vet or nurse can talk you through it. if it's injectable (could be Baytril again!) you'll usually be issued with pre-filled syringes with needles and again, be shown/talked through how to do it.

something that i believe is relevant to all antibiotice courses is to ensure you finish the course - if she looks okay after halfway through the course, you must not stop giving the antibiotics.

Finish giving the course correctly no matter what!

Thanks guys. All replies appreciated. I've been going in every day to make sure shes ok. She is doing much better already, ha, think they got sick of me, they'll call me if there's any change, but i think i'm getting her back tomorrow. :)

I'm mid proccess of converting my old bookshelf into a stack of vivs. Got my silicone on the go today to seal everything up before i stick the glass doors in.

She'll be nice and cozy in there. I'll end up with a few good sized [3'+] vivs. Which will come in really handy, as the rep store i got V from has got in morphs, so my name's down for a little male pastel. :)

Vicodin's viv is now at the perfect temp for her. So she'll still be in there til the bookshelf is done. Happy me.

Royals rock ;p x
