I recently took a young royal python off the hands of a friend of a friend who had nooo idea what they were doing. :( The poor guy was skinny as a rail, dehydrated, and had a bit of retained shed on the last quarter inch or so of his tail. She said it had been that way for about two to three weeks. I managed to soak him and then gently remove the skin on the end of his tail with a damp rag. However, now the end of his tail looks a little funny...It's slightly off-color and looks a bit smaller than the area of the tail that wasn't covered in unshed skin. I'm a little concerned about it.
Do you think it will be okay? I understand that sometimes if this happens, the end of the tail can actually fall off. It doesn't appear to be that bad off, other than being slightly pink. Do they often heal up well from something like this? Will the end of his tail recover? Or should I be watching and waiting for it to fall off?
I can't get pictures at this time, but I will try to if possible.
