I very recently took a friends 5 yr old Royal Python into my care as Mitch needed a new home. I have never had a snake before but have always adored them. And Mitch is one chilled out Royal!

He is incredibly beautiful and seems to be settling in well, he needs a bigger viv, but I'm getting him used to his surroundings first. I have just this minute given him a rat which he pounced on......but he hasn't eaten it yet, I guess I should give him a bit of time. He gave it a mighty old squeeze though!

I've been reading up lots and it sounds like I shouldn't worry too much, but I will a bit until he's completley settled!

I'm glad there are forums such as this for the advice.

Oo! I think he's eaten it! I can't see it, so unless he's hidden it - I'm not gonna going poke around though after a feed!

It's best to leave him for at least a couple of days before handling isn't it?

I'm so pleased he feels comfortable to eat. But if you have any good tips for a new owner the more the merrier!

hi and welcome. have fun and enjoy watching him when you can as they will hide a great deal of the time. that would be tip1. tip2, although i know it can be very difficult but try not to worry if they miss a feed or two.Tip3 buy a good set of digital scales that you can use to monitor his wait.Tip4 as some else found out recently. Keep spares of things like heat mats, lamps etc.
enjoy again and look forward to seeing your pics .

Hi Dogstar. To expand on one of Spor's tips, my female royal went off her food for seven months and she's absolutely fine.
